I’m a newbie
Hello all
I have been doing a lot of reading through Jim’s guides ect ect and I was wondering what people thought would be the best trade in or sell on Motorhome in the future.
I’m thinking if I get a four birth it would appeal to families so would possibly be easier to sell on in the end.
I’m torn between a two birth or a four birth primarily it is for just me and the wife with possible trips away with grandchildren.
Any thoughts would be grateful thanks.

Welcome!

Not an easy question to answer.........it all depends upon what prospective buyers are looking for......do they have the same criteria as you do at present? As regards 2 or 4 berth for your ‘van.....how often will the grandkids be coming with you? Would an awning with sleeping compartments be a better solution? Once again, it will all comedown to layout, length, and how much you wish to spend........

If you buy a 4 berth you will have 4 safety belts if you buya2 berth you will only have 2 safety belts and you will not be able to take more that 2 people. So do you opt like me for a 2 berth and enjoy the peace and quiet 😀🤔🤔🤔

Not necessarily! I’ve seen several four berths with only two belted seats.......

All depends on the deal you get, we traded the last van as the trade in was more than we could have sold it privately for and still got a very good discount off the new van (20%).

Go for the layout you like best
Any benefits of picking one that may resell better will be outweighed by not likening it in use
Some makes resell for more than others but starting price may be more

Were these MH seen on the road with 4 inside 'cos more people than seat belts is a bit of a quagmire to unravel the legalities.
For e.g. my insurance would be void in the event that there were un-belted passengers & likely there'd be an offence of driving without due care and attention coming my way.

A recent discussion: #18

EDIT: Wrong discussion linked - fixed.

We've had two Moho's since 2016, both were 4 berth, not because we're ever likely to carry 4 people within but in addition to the layout & payload being more than adequate, the 4 berth model we chose was more adaptable than a similar dimensioned 2 berth, we also made a judgement call on the 4 berth being possibly more re-saleable ( whether it is or not remains to be seen )

Get the van for you.
With the layout you want

For the 3 nights of the year you might have the grandchildren they can stay in a tent (or you can)

As the majority of MoHo owners are of a 'certain age', you will not find any problem in reselling a two berth one.
But as others have said get one with as many belted seats as possible
Ours is two berth, it has 4 belted seats

Look after your van and it will resell a few years later without too much loss of value.
Don't buy absolute top of the range, £100K plus when new, as although they retain their value well, they loose a lot in the first 5 years.
Don't buy bottom of the range either, wooden construction will rot.

Pick a major manufacturer, ideally one like Hymer who have a number of other brands, and then start exploring the models and see what you get for your budget.
