Does anyone have a Gaslow/refillable filler point externally connected to gas bottles in the gas locker in the rear garage please? Just about to fit the filler point and as it’s a 70mm hole thought it best to check if anyone can offer suggestions for the best position. TIA

Somewhere that can take the weight of gas filler handle and pipe and not flex, what about the door ?

We have an aluminium skirt round ours, filler been in that for 10 years with no issues

How about the smaller continental type. Much smaller and you will still need different screw on adapters.

I have mine installed in the fuel/adblue filler compartment. Makes it easier to fill and if the attendant says you can't fill domestic bottles (happens here is Spain because the tax is different) you just tell him the van is hybrid.

You want it above knee and below shoulder height.
Ideally on the same side as the gas locker so as to have the shortest possible hose.
You do not want it near the ignition to the fridge.
Ideally on the same side as other filler points such as water, fuel, EHU etc.

Mine was professionally fitted in the LPG door.

Hi Graham,

Mine is inside the locker drilled through to outside on the top right as you are looking in the locker. Gives plenty of room to move bottles if needed and doesn’t get in the way at all. Same side as the diesel filler.

There is room to use a normal UK filler with ease and I would as some garages don’t allow adapters.

In an ideal world having the same side as the fuel filler makes for an easier life when fuelling up diesel and gas.
Mike.

Here's a piture.

I used a square type filler on my 2001 Hymer B584 , didn’t fancy the 70mm hole type. The square ones only need a 30mm hole and 4 small screw holes

Thanks for your replies, I think I will have a measure up and set it out before drilling the dreaded 70mm hole! It will definitely not be in the door but on the side wall/panel.

Use a small square filler and mount it in the sill behind the rear wheel arch.
I did that on my Exsis & my DL and now on my current Carthago.

Pic of filler on Carthago, easier on the Exsis a bit more space.

I would strongly advise against using the smaller continental type filler points , they are very cheap for a reason ☹️
Not only do the ball bearing in the valve often jam shut but the screw in adaptors are on either 8 mm or 10 mm threads , a hollow brass Dutch / UK bayonet fitting is especially vulnerable to snapping off with the combined weight of the gun and filler hose ⚠️

We no longer support the fitting of filler points in doors as they are a problem waiting to happen.
I don’t believe any other suppliers support the installation of door fillers now either,
Unfortunately many installers / dealers continue to install fillers in the doors as it’s the easiest / quickest solution.
It actually needs putting in the relevant standards to stop this .
Here’s what Gas It has to say :

No way would put it in the side wall, filler guns are heavy and I can see that leading to delamination of the wall.
Far better fixed in the sill you Hymer has aluminium sills with reinforcing ridges so plenty strong enough.

They can be ok when installed correctly in the aluminium panels but unfortunately many fitters over tighten the filler pod and seriously distort the panel ( they look bloody awful) ⚠️

Mine is the same model and had no issues at all.

Not saying it won’t eventually, but mine has been fine so far.
