What’s the best electric kettle to get for the van?

I would avoid a big 3KW one, too prone to tripping the electrics if anything else is running. We have one of less than 2KW, a bit smaller capacity but just as quick to boil. I cant tell you the exact type because the motorhome is in storage but it is similar to this one.

It depends on where your power is coming from, inverter or hook up and how reliable the hook up amps are going to be or do you have a network compensating inverter charger, but as a rule of thumb low wattage is more flexible but slower to boil.

We use 2400watts but have 3kw inverter with network compensation so makes up for low amp hook up supply.

I've had a 900w one for years, used it mainly at work. Makes 3 mugs of tea.. Just.

We have a full size electrc kettle rated at 1,000 watts or the van. Takes a while to get to the boil, but works fine on most hook-ups.

6 amps is usually the lowest we come across and which is perfectly adequate. We have encountered 2 and 3-amp hook-ups in France, which would be unsuitable - but they are pretty rare these days.

We do also carry a miniature 650 watt travel kettle, but don't normally use it. But it's so compact and lightweight, it might be handy as a back-up... ;)(y)

If on a hook-up, we always boil water for a couple of 1-litre flasks in the morning, to last us much of the day, and especially useful when travelling. :giggle:

We use the Lakeland travel kettle which is 1kw and reasonably fast. It boils enough water for 2 cups.

I use a small lightweight travel kettle, remember you have to find storage room for both it and a gas kettle. I very rarely bother to get out the electric kettle (on the floor underneath the oven) even when on hookup.

I have a 800watt travel one off the inverter, we have 5 sockets connected to the Mains ( when on) and the Inverter.

We don’t see the point in carrying 2 kettles, have a nice pretty cordless gas hob kettle 👍🙂
Mmmmmh! Now is that a cordless gas kettle or a cordless gas hob?:giggle:

This thread has reminded me just how small and slow our current electric kettle is, will be changing when I see something suitable.

We have a small travel kettle and a collapsible gas kettle

Tried all sorts of kettles because the boss has to have her tea how she wants it or I dont get any peace
Obviously there is the wattage/time to boil choices but I found the biggest difference was noise........some of them are worse than aircraft taking off 😱
Got a cheap one from tesco, does the job 👍

We have one of those collapsible rubber/silicone ones for electric and use a small saucepan for boiling water on the gas hob, it works for us.

Paul, Highbridge Caravans have a good selection of electric kettles on their shelves in their accessory shop.
Could be a good excuse for a drive out, “ officer our kettle has stopped working “.

We have been using a "Quest Leisure products" kettle for a few years ---- 1.2 litre--- 1000w------ very pleased with its performance and would be very keen to replace it with the same when the time comes------ virtually always run from an inverter

My latest is from Wilco. Somewhere around 1700w

Get the old fashioned steel whistling kettle for the gas hob and a flask to keep the boiling water in always ready then.

We have A Kampa 1.7L 1000w electric kettle. Takes a little while to boil but, we aren’t in any rush to have a cuppa, and we can use other stuff without fear of tripping the leccy 👍

We just use a kettle on the gas hob. I know that's not much help when you're trying to source the best electric kettle but perhaps it gives something to think about as an alternative. Do most people carry two kettles?

Descaling with citric acid (lemon juice) helped get rid of the noise.

Another vote for the cordless gas version. We take it anyway because we are not often on EHU. So why bother taking two?
Exactly. You need a gas kettle, so why take another? Gas works anywhere.
Use gas for heat and electricity for gadgets.
