Base vehicle choice for a homebrew campervan

Just look at what most of the converters use which is a 6m high top Ducato/Boxer/Relay

Ford transit - fix or repair daily....

The T4 VW would be my first choice for a smaller camper but the Merc Sprinter or VW Crafter are popular for a bigger camper.

Renault master ambulance (y)

I'd like a mk 1 sprinter with the 2.9 engine or a Vario if my lisense allowed it!

Renault Master Police Riot Van (actually a Vauxhall Movano, but all the parts are stamped Renault, except the steering wheel!)

I wouldn't be too worried about the make - they are all pretty much the same if you look deep enough. They are built for the white van market and for a shortish life after which they will be thrown away.

As a general rule a newer high mileage vehicle is a better bet than an older low mileage one. Not least because getting parts for old vehicles can be difficult unless you can get something from a breakers.

So I suggest keep an open mind. Don't be too worried about the badge on the bonnet.

Anything RWD..

RWD vans usually have reduced headroom.

Van choice depends what you want. Does the van need a bathroom? Fixed bed? How many to sleep in it?

That covers off just about every motorhome on the market. They're all built off van chassis and cabs.

Van choice depends what you want
And also where you want to do it....hard standing site or middle of rally field or grass CL.
