Has anyone visited Baltic Wharf recently.
If so is it possible to access the site via the swing bridge and on to Cumberland Road, or is it still necessary to follow the diversion route, approaching the site from the other end of Cumberland Road.

Will be watching this as there next week after having my toad fitted out at lnb Towbars, is it suitable?

Good luck getting in there, always either closed or fully booked. I thought it was going to be closed permanently.

According to C&MC they are still open on short term lease.

The Warden, This being last Sept/Oct, When we used it as base for a visit to the Concorde "Experience", was of the opinion they (the club) where running it on a year to year basis. His take, was that the potential deveolpers where having issues with planners. So where letting the CC have/retain it on short lease. There was a collapse of part of the road?, which was projected to be a very long term repair job?. So it could likely be still restricted.?

Check with Riverbankannie I think she lives in that neck of the woods
I haven’t driven into Bristol since the landslip happened so no first hand experience. Bristol City Council link to this website for current roadworks and Closures and it looks like Cumberland Road outside Baltic Wharfe is open both ways under traffic light control.
However, there is a road closure at Cumberland Basin and I cannot quite see how it affects you.

You could try ringing up to see if any cancellations. I would assume site ok for toads as they take the usual large caravans being towed.
Coming in from LNB at Aztec West I believe? , probably better to get on M5 down to Avonmouth and approach in through Cumberland Basin but take Coronation Road and double back on other side of river.

Looking on google maps looks like the road closures at Cumberland Basin mean that if coming in from M5 via A4 shown as Hotwells Road on map, take the flyover signposted Weston-super-mare and crossover harbour.
Take left sliproad off to A370 signposted Bedminster and continue to Bedminster Roundabout. Use the roundabout to cross back over river taking first left to travel along Cumberland Road back to the club site.

I live in Baltic Wharf and can confirm that Cumberland Road is now only accessible westbound. Occasionally the council seem to relent for a week or so and allow eastbound traffic. Normally it’s just long enough for us locals to get used to 2 way traffic again and then they block the road eastbound without warning! I’ve been caught out a few times!
Riverbankannie ‘s directions using Coronation Road on the other side of the river are the best route if coming in to Bristol by the A4 Portway or from Somerset in the south.
If you use the M32 into Bristol your route will be unchanged as you will be using Cumberland Road in a westbound direction.
Enjoy Baltic Wharf while it lasts - it won’t be long before the developers move in. The good news is that the council are now cooperating more with the Caravan Club. Hopefully they will open a site at the bottom of Ashton Court with a view of the suspension bridge. There’s a bus stop, it’s great for dog walking and cycling and it’s just an extra 10 minute walk in to town.

You need to follow the diversion Beltie !

Thanks everybody. I can confirm that if coming from the M5, J18, Riverbankannie's directions are spot on. The route is also set out in more detail on the C&MHC website. When leaving the site, there is also no access westbound onto Cumberland Road.
Oh and watch out for the trees along Coronation Road which are encroaching on to the carriageway!

Going back last year, was interesting we used to stay there in the run up to xmas. And do the xmas shopping in Bristol. At that time I lived in Yeovil. Mrs worked in Westlands, I serviced most of the south west as a surveyor. Several years on the trott, the institute dinner was held on board the SS Great Brittain. I would to put the caravan on Baltic Wharf. Thereby no drink and drive issues. And only a nice short walk when fully booted and spurred. (y)

That was handy what is the future for that site?

It will be redeveloped but as catspyjamas says, there is hope that the council will allocate some land near the police horse stables, not sure exactly which site but green arrow is stables and Red arrow current site. Would make a great replacement as walking/cyclepath back to harbour or along river under suspension bridge and Ashton Court on doorstep. There is a footbridge over the railway line already very near the stables.

Riverbankannie The proposed site is the old police horse and dog training centre so would be where your green arrow is.

I’ve stopped using Long Ashton P&R........£9 for two of us and it takes 30 to 40 minutes to get to where we want to get off........£6.30 to park for 5 hours in the centre of the city. Bristol is moving in the wrong direction to discourage traffic from entering the City Centre.

There are plans to run a new road across the old Mounted Section land.

That proposed new CMC site would get a lot of traffic noise from both sides.

Absolutely. If they go ahead with one of the new road systems proposed, it appears anything in that area will be in a triangle surrounded by the road system...........don’t expect a quiet break.

If you are happy with a cl and don't need/want to take the van into Bristol then Hortham Farm (Bristol Caravans) cl is only 2miles north on the A38 from lnb.

We had a walk over to the proposed new location today. It is only about a ten or fifteen minute walk from Baltic Wharf, but as someone else said, it would be fine in the daytime, but it is certainly not a walk I would do after dark. In particular, the bridge over the railway line is very unpleasant.

It could be a decent size site and I'm sure the access issues could be resolved. The road outside is unfortunately very busy and it certainly would not be a restful site. There is, however, a pleasant walk through Leigh Woods up into Clifton.

I don't think the club will find a site any nearer to the harbour, but it will be a very different environment from Baltic Wharf.

Doesn't really matter. If old Baltic Wharf Site anything to go by you will never be able to get a pitch unless you really organized and book a year in advance. We been trying for five years and have given up...
