Hi

As we'll be using our MH in a little more static way this summer. Could anyone recommend a drive away awning for a 13 year old CI Mizar please?

Or, as we have a fiamma wind out canopy, would a safari room be a better option?

Thanks, Mike

Safari rooms take an age to put up/down and have to come down before van can move. There’s usually lots for sale ‘hardly used’. Draveaway awnings can be left in situ and will connect to the fiamma. Air beam ones are easier but heavier than poles. They will all be noisy in wind. Look at various known names to see which layout/shape best suits your purpose. Then check Fun discounts and classifieds

get one of these best of both worlds... vango hex

The Vango Galli Air awning is fine piece of kit, once up its like little bungalow and very good quality.
Also really good for keeping you fit when you put in the bag

We prefer this Ventura Freestander drive-away to the Ventura Simplex Air we bought a few years ago and found not to be suitable for our PVC.

stupid question time...if you have a motorhome and use a Vango AirHub Hexaway / vango hex / Ventura Freestander type of 'tent'...you dont actually use the wind out awning at all? Its basically a freestanding tent that you put up next to the motorhome?

With the vango galli you can have it as free standing tent but we often affix it to the wind out awning rail either wound in ( in UK or if we are abroad on a nice big pitch ( remember abroad, over the water pre brexit and covid) we will attach it with the awning wound out so you have a lovely shaded space as well .

Having had a safari room and awning/tent I would say biggest difference is the safari room takes a bit more assembly but it is much more stable in bad weather-- as long as you have rafters fitted in wind out awning----- for camping a month at a time I reckon it's worth putting it up------ do you have payload to carry one?

Our Ventura Freestander is best of both worlds, normally attached to wind out awning which gives you the benefit of a tunnel between vehicle and awning. Alternatively, can be un-attached quite easily if you need to drive-away. The awning is fixed to the ground securely and effectively acts like a tent. The Freestander does not have to be fixed to the vehicle, as the name implies it’s freestanding. Other drive-away awnings will be similar.
