I have recently returned from holiday during which I have had issues with the Sargent control panel and the main power unit, essentially they switching off on their own from time to time. Sometimes it would reset using the shutdown button on the control unit and sometimes not. I tried taking out both battery fuses and it did reset but then the problem started again. I read somewhere that it could be an earth cable problem and so I have added a second earth strap which is, at present, working but i'm not that confident it has resolved the issue. Any ideas or similar experiences ?

ncove1 , Sounds like another dry joint issue on a Sargent unit
Sargent are great for customer service and not silly expensive either..

But !

Depending on the year of your unit, they did go through a phase where a lot of their kit had dry joints and duff PSB's
2006 to 2009 ( early ) seems to be the dates

Their early units were VERY good, almost bullet proof in fact.. But when they wanted to improve the functionality of their units, instead of starting from scratch they do seem to have just added and added bits to them
This led to a very overly complex product ( so OTT there are some bits in them with 100% redundancy built in, more by accident than design it seems to me :) )

As said though, the customer service is proper old school and very very helpful (y)

Well the additional earth strap didn't work. Its all switched off again but there is a clicking sound from behind the drivers seat and seems to be coming from the small fuse board there. Sounds like a relay trying to energize. Im not sure its the Sargent unit as when it resets it shows everything as fine. Is there a battery relay under there ? also the vehicle battery level indicator is reading anyhow up down all over the place.

Behind the seat is the EM50 which is an interface between the Sargent unit and the Fiat side of things. Several relays in there, may be worth checking to see if you can identify the one that's playing up. (y)

Many thanks for all your help, contacted the Sargent customer services and they where very helpful. Problem turned out to be a bad contact on the battery connection on the back of the EM40 interface. It was arcing and getting hot and occasionally losing connection. Cleaned it up and connected new spade clips. All OK now. Once again thanks for all your help.
