Is there an existing thread I can check relating to replacement for the 12ELE2000 media centre fitted to Autotrail (mine’s a 2012 model)

Don’t want to start a new one if this exists.

Thanks, Mike

there were plenty a few years ago with people getting the units repaired under warranty. Most gave up in the end and chose various replacements. To be honest, with the latest crop of android double din screens that mirror your phone, they are the way I would go. Even the sub £100 ones are pretty good, but if you want a more premium sound, all the big names in in car entertainment make models with the same features

The cheapest real Android Auto head unit (as opposed to Chinese amplifier with an ancient Android pad bolted to the front) I could find was the Sony XAV-3005DB. It is perfectly servicable, with only complaints being a poor screen (need to be brighter with capacitive touchscreen) and lack of aux in (can't attach a TV/Alexa except via Bluetooth). It also needs a particularly high quality USB lead for odd technical reasons. But apart from that, it works fine! DAB is very good with an Eightwood roof antenna.

I keep meaning to cut the headlight wire to it, as it dims when the headlights are on. Particularly as it isn't particularly pointed in the driver's direction in the Movano, the dimmed mode is hopeless unless it is nighttime and cars are driven with the headlights on frequently in daylight. I have no idea why head units use the headlight circuit to determine dimming. There is only a very poor correlation between the lighting levels desiring a dimmed head unit and the headlights being on. And the head unit knows exactly where it is by GPS and the local timezone and could calculate a much better dimming schedule from this than from the fact it is raining and you've turned the lights on and now have to choose between turning your lights back off or seeing the screen.

Sounds (no pun intended!) like you know you stuff! All the units I’ve looked at don’t have a tv tuner built in which I need to drive the drop down tv. I’m hoping someone has found a straightforward alternative or can describe another solution altogether. Eg a suitable drop down tv replacement. Thanks for your replies 👍

Do you know what type of input the drop down TV has?

I fitted an Xtrons TD696ADS that has cd \ sat nav \ DVB-T tv \ etc but it's long discontinued.

You can get external TV tuners that connect to an aux input on the back of other media head units, eg https://xtrons.co.uk/car-media-fitting-accessories/dvb-t
other brands available.

It's an RCA connection on a fly lead down to the back of the head unit.

This is what the back of your 12ELE will look like (albeit ours was a 13ELE).

Thank you again. I’ll follow with this when I get back from (radio-less) holiday 👍👍

Sounds like a 12V DVB RCA output tuner is the way to go. You'll also need a head unit with a wired auxilliary sound input. The RCA output will be harder to find than HDMI and only do standard definition. It's worth looking on the back of the screen to see if it also had a digital input.
