Having owned a VW/Calypso in the past, and having friends with a Pug 1.9td powered van similar size to the Starfire there is no comparison. My comments also compare with the Pug 2.5TD engine.

The 5 pot VW is so smooth (and economical ) compared with the pugeot engines, and much better on hills than the 1.9td pug engine.
We enjoyed our time with the Calypso but decided we needed a larger vehicle.

Think anyone who has had one of the 2.5TD VW powered vans will tell you a similar story about the engine.
