I’m going to Austria in June for the F1 GP.

Can anyone suggest any other must see areas, I’m thinking Salzburg first for a couple of nights then lake Traunsee.

Coming back over Grobglockner, if the weather is ok.

Hallstatt, st gilgen, st wolfgang (take the schaftbergbahn up the mountain) Berchtesgaden.

Alan, 15 mins from the A1 ring in Seckau there is Michael Regner gingerbread shop (as visited by the hairy bikers) it’s got the best ginger bread ever(y)

Enjoy glossglockner.

If you want to stay the night up there you have to make the frank josephs hut road by 1530.

Check name of road as that is from memory and check time aswell upon entry

Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe, but near enough my friend, why 1530? I was under the impression that as long as you was on the road you can make your way up there, but I could be wrong(y)

I guess it depends where you are going in Austria but, if you are into walking, bear in mind that most ski resorts have big car parks at the bottom of their lift system, and seem to have no problem with the occasional ‘wild camper’ staying overnight.

Make sure your van's fit before you do the Grossglockner. We came over a couple of years ago, finishing up in Kaprun. No problems at all engine or gearbox-wise, and we did plenty of stopping, using engine braking and so on, but as we arrived on our site in Kaprun, brake pad light came on, and we ended up having to have new front discs and pads. I guess all I'm saying is take it very easy coming down, and you'll be fine.

The buggers closed the road on us at that time last year. We were gutted.
They put a barrier across and it was close to this time of year. Something to do with avalanches. Bloody wimps

Ah ok, I think in June it’s open a lot later!
I’ve been to booth a few times on bike and it’s been snowing on top and they wouldn’t let us over, so we had to do either the A10 autobahn or the Felbertauerntunnel!

I was hoping to stay up there if it’s a clear night.

Possible but make that road before it closes. Spend the latter part of the day on the glacier and you should be fine.
