Hi everyone,

I've just subscribed to what is now clearly the best on-line forum, having tried most of the others and found them lacking in some way. I'm no newcomer to motorhoming, however, having owned three 'vans over the last fifteen years.

Anyway, I'm due to take delivery of a new 'van at the end of the month. It's a Laika on an Alko chassis. My problem is that I have a steep drive and need air assist on the rear. I've looked at the AS system at various shows and have been impressed with the quality of the kit and the professionalism of the owners.
AS also claim that they will guarantee a minimum of 80mm lift at the axle. This is more than the various competing systems.

Therefore, my query is; does anyone have any recent experience of the feasibility of their claim, the general performance of the system and the quality of installation?

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

I've just subscribed to what is now clearly the best on-line forum,

Joining the UK Landrover Owners Forum was the best thing I did too :D

@QFour - Over to you sir.

We had the AS air assist fitted to our Alko chassis’d Hymer B544 by Phil at AS Suspension in Warrington. I can 100% vouch for their quality workmanship and professionalism, as well as their friendly approach. We went back and had the HPC levellers fitted by them also.
We are completely satisfied with the quality and performance of the air assist and on several occasions got out of a fix by being able to pump up the rear. Whilst it goes up a long way I couldn’t say exactly by how much.

I also used as air suspension for my motorhome good neat job.

We had an AS system fitted to our Hymer when we were towing a lot. We could have a full van and trailer and be at the top of our weight and the suspension made the trailer and van look empty, while really improving the ride. We also had a bit of levelling we could play with on site, raising the rear left and right together or independently. It helps that Phil and Cath at AS are really nice people and easy to work with (y)

We used them also and are very happy with the result. We don't get quite as much lift as you quote there, and I think the max on the Fiat Auto-trail is around 60mm. But my response would be that if Phil and Kath tell you that you'll get 80mm I would believe them. They know their stuff and are honest folks.

Does anybody have a picture of the gauges and switches that AS fit as standard.
It’s got to be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.

This isn’t a picture of ours, it’s one I found ont tinternet but if you imagine this with black screws that don’t stand out, rather than silver and no sticker, ours is just the same. A very neat a good looking installation.

Doesn’t look that tidy to be honest. I’ll see if they will fit the same ones as VB

Agree - very pleased with AS in Warrington - highly recommended (can’t vouch for the amount of lift though sorry)

These are VB system. I assume AS would be the same.

My AS ones, fitted two or three years ago, are not quite the same as that image. Instead of the black switches I have two silver thin push knobs that release left and right. Then there is a black rocker switch for refilling both simultaneously.

I actually think those in the image are better looking than mine! But you really should just ring them and see what the options are. They're very accommodating people.
