I booked Armadale to Mallaig in May; there was no problem in booking and I don't see any tidal issues. We are just shy of 8m and have a rear bike rack - all of this has been input into the system so it won't be a surprise to anyone when we get there.

I've also looked at the (really helpful) Google street views and it seems that the boarding and disembarkation would be easy; I see coaches are a regular feature too, however... For those of you that have done this crossing and given we are 8m with quite an overhang (and no air [yet]), will we really be ok or will we suffer the wrath of staff and other travelers as we are "accommodated"?

Thx

I think I heard that there was some potential disruption on that route during this summer due to neep tides. Only ever travelled as a foot passenger so can't advise on any impact in loading during these occasions but there could be some assistance needed when loading \ unloading.

Done this crossing many times with a 8 m fiat Bessacarr with no problems atall despite there being a long overhang on the vehicle. Never had the ferry cancelled perhaps we have just been lucky.

On those Scottish ferries the crew are well-versed in handling vehicles with overhangs at extremes of the tides.

If they see a problem they will bridge the steep gap where you might ground with a mat, or two.

One way to minimise the effect of the overhang is to drive on at an angle, lateral space allowing. This allows one wheel to cross the gap and partially lift the rear before the second wheel.

Try and make contact with the loaders before you board.

We have a long overhang and they have sometimes "filled in" the obtuse angle between ramp and deck with lengths of mooring rope.
