We are told that hot winds from the Sahara are making parts of Europe like a fan oven. What is the word from the man/motorhome on the street, is it unbearably hot or just normal for the time of the year.....tell us how it is.....

I guess we are lucky living in Brittany as it seems we will miss the highest temperatures.
So far, we have had a few days of at least 28 degrees up to Wednesday, 32 degrees yesterday and forecast is for around the same today.
Currently 25 degrees outside at 0800
Luckily, our house has very efficient gas filled double glazed windows ( supposed to reduce heat from passing through, either way) and shutters on all windows. Keeps the house nice and cool.
Very little breeze outside.
Looks like we will be off to the beach later if it gets too hot.

44 in Gray France yesterday, 35°overnight in the van. Now manageable this morning at 25°

Sounds ideal Allanm, they are I think expecting >40C today further south.....

We are 1300m up at the moment at La Morte, south of Grenoble. Reached 31 yesterday and same forcast for next couple of days. We had planned to move down today but the location we were going to the forcast is suggesting 38, change of plans so now staying here till Sunday.

We're about 15 miles west of Limoges, highs about 38° in the daytime, dropping to about 25° at night.

Managing reasonably well with Endless Breeze and a pool on site, even though we spend our time in the shade still turning a bit pink... but not actually burning.

It is normalish here ,if a bit early. has been compounded by the exceptionally dry winter
Thanks gus, normal sounds quite hot to me, how do you get on with Spanish summers or are you used to them by now.

On the Rhine, Wednesday was hottest at 38 degrees, yesterday much cooler but there was a decent wind which makes a massive difference.

When it gets close to unbearable my best tip is to soak one of those lightweight camping towels in water and either wrap it around you or at least over you, believe me it makes a massive difference, (almost) like walking into a fridge ?

Sorry meant 38 degrees on Wednesday. Can anyone tell me how to edit? I'm new here..

Edit: Jesus, I said Wednesday originally.. I'm blaming the heat ?

Hit the report button and an option comes up to edit

Just checked and hitting the button offers "more options" with edit being there.

Geneva to belfort in the afternoon yesterday over the hills we saw 38 on the van temperature.
Expecting it hot again today but heading germany as next fortnight it comes down to 80s.
Yesterday was hot. Seen it hotter in provence and champagne before but really not that far behind those scorchers.
Salad day again

YAHOO !!! we have very low cloud and light mist this am, 1100h and 21°C ... lovely ... but it won't last .. Forecast for near 40°C in the next day or two. Fortunately, in the mid afternoons we have a strong breeze, and a pool, makes life bearable

Unbearably hot here in west-central France, around 40C yesterday and probably a bit higher today.

The all-time record high temperature in France looks set to be beaten today in the far south - that was 44.1C in mid-August, and it's only June!

Due to reach 37°C this afternoon at Magny-Cours. It feels that temperature already. C'est la vie (as the Welsh say ;) )

Well due to different circumstances I haven'y actually been here for one since 2012 . The average July/august tempes here In lorca are around the 36/37º mark. In the 17 years I have been here they appear to have got hotter & the summer has definitely got longer.
I'm used to them but in reality you just don't go out until the sun starts to set. It isn't unusual for the kids to go out to play at 11pm:laughing:

The other thing is the working day changes in summerfor anyone who works out doors. They will start at near sunrise & work until around 1pm. & that is it. " Jornada intensivo"

Spent the last two afternoons slipping in and out of the pool at Saumur, hit 36° . Now about to enter Paris. Sitting in the shade having a late lunch before tackling the traffic, 35°.

I have lived in warmer climates when I was younger but luckily never worked. I think overall I prefer Blighty with all it's faults and naff weather patterns. Having said that, I am still partial to the odd break in the sun but a couple of weeks and I'm ready to head north again....
I have just had a nose where lorca is, looks nicely positioned. How did you end up getting a home there?

Golfe du Morbihan past Vannes , we haven’t had it as hot as some of France but yesterday felt pretty warm. It definitely feels a bit better today and less humid. We are on an aire where as soon as a shady spot comes free another van moves into it.

There is an ultra marathon starting this afternoon in Vannes the longest route is 177km , I felt a bit weary after a 5 mile walk this morning :)

Temperature is better today by the Mosel. 27°C on the temp gauge now at mid afternoon.
Two or three days ago it was very uncomfortable because of the high humidity.
It’s much fresher now and sitting under the awning with just a touch of breeze it’s perfect.

Near Agde. Temp as shown. Outside temperature measured in shade under awning box. Local pub has a pool. But we are from Tyneside and used to the heat. IMG_20190628_145827.jpg
