Is there a shortage of good winter sites in the sun?
I have heard that more and more sites in Spain are disappearing making it a little more difficult every year to find nice sites to winter in. Sites occupying quality areas with great views or beach access are being sold for development. Is this so?

With Motorhomes becoming more and more popular, something has got to give. Are campers now heading elsewhere for winter? Further south or inland?

Hi Jim

Yes indeed, we have seen and heard of several sites in Spain being bought by developers, most are now fully booked though out the winter..
The site at Roquetas de Mar has been sold, although still open for business most of the statics have been removed already..
For winter sun alternatives are Morocco and possibly Turkey or Greece ..

 Yes it is quite true. Camping Cap Negret (Altea) where we were ensconced for 5 years right on the beach is finally closing this year. We visited with our ex-next door Dutch friends last week. It was devastating to see the state of the campsite. Being next to the beach is of course the prime position for any development.

Jim,

The Canary Islands are very good for wintering, we visited five of the seven islands and had a great time. There are very few sites and wild camping is the order of the day.

There is of course the downside the £1500 ferry fare :Eeek: puts most people off.

There's also Sicily, the island seems to get it more popular every year with many people looking for an alternative to the Iberian Peninsula.
