Please can anyone tell us of any house insurers willing to insure your house when it is going to be unoccupied for > 60 days for any one trip? Thanks.

If a member of the Camping & Caravan Club, their Home Insurance allows 180 days from home.
If not a member it may be worth joining just for this.

Thank you so much for that - we do belong to the C&CC!
Now just need to get over the fact that we have a thatched roof... ?

The caravan and motorhome club (CAMC) also do house insurance for up to 90 days away for members.

I'm currently insured with CCC, renewal due end of January. There have been some rumours that premiums have gone up quite a bit this year because they have discontinued their relationship with some of their long standing brokers. I'm due to receive my renewal premium next week.....so will see.

A lot of companies are quite happy to let you exceed the 60 day limit just need to call them. Some require extra conditions i.e. water turned of and central heating drained down or heating set to 15 deg etc.

I got a quote from the C&CC the premium was a joke 4 or 5 times what I was paying at the time or only twice as much if I accepted flood claims only above 2m of water.

+ 1 for the C&MC for up to 90 days.

LV= are quite reasonable?
This from the schedule so if you can get some one to stay a couple of nights a week you could go longer?
LV=
Unoccupied not lived in by you or a member of your family, for more than 60 days in a row, or does not have sufficient furniture or services for normal living purposes. By lived in we mean staying in and sleeping overnight for at least 2 nights in a row each week

C&MC and CCC wouldn’t cover us because of proximity to a watercourse, but we found NFU excellent. Cover over 60 days requires a named neighbour checking up weekly, but I believe different branches have different approaches to >60 day absences. We have found them excellent when needing to claim on contents cover.

Thank you for these!
So far we have:
CAMC - to phone back ‘cos they need to refer to more brokers
C&CC - not interested ‘cos of thatch
NFU - not interested ‘cos of past subsidence
BIBA (British Ins Brokers Assoc) to phone back if they can find an interested broker
LV - yet to contact when I can summon up more stamina
?
So we returned to our existing insurer (Royal & Sun Alliance thru N’wide) to discover that their definition of 60 nights ‘unoccupied’ can be broken up (and so the 60 nights restarted) by someone staying over just one night - so long as they showered/bathed as well...
Interestingly their initial quote of £1000 jumped up by 50% to £1500 (yes really) when we realised their initial quote was based on our house having no loos or bathrooms! ?
