Hi,
looking for recommendations on navigation apps that can be used with Apple play to our new unit please

I decided to get a pioneer head unit with apple play rather than a hardwired satnav .

it works brilliantly but I’m yet to find an app for my iPhone that allows vehicle dimensions to be entered .
I’ve tried all of the usual suspects - waze, google , Michelin , tomtom , sygic etc , amd whilst they all work really well as navigation for cars , you cannot enter your vehicle dimensions .

anyone found an app that does ?

many thanks
Russ

Here WeGo, Not motor home dedicated but works fine for me , updated every month or so and works off line, we've used it for a number of years after someone on here suggested all over europe

Sygic premium will work via Apple CarPlay however, you're not able to put in vehicle dimensions as you are with their truck version. I've used Sygic premium with some success but that was with pre planning the route by placing maker points on specific roads making sure to avoid known issues; not quite plug and play and quite easy to miss a narrow lane or other restriction if you don't know the area or miss it on Google earth.....

I've personally reverted back to running CoPilot caravan on the mobile and occasionally have Waze running via CarPlay just for comparison. On the CoPilot support tickets, a number of people have questioned to when their app will be availble via CarPlay but as yet, there's no confirmation from the developers!!

Software developers are really missing a trick and could take a large chunk from the likes of Garmin etc if they were to offer the functionality of running their apps via Carplay. I struggle to see if Sygic can do it for their premium users, why they can't also develop the truck version to run via CarPlay???

Doesn’t the TomTom app run on CarPlay?

Sygic Truck is treated as a separate app. So while the main Sygic app for cars has got Apple Car Play/Android Auto support, the Sygic Truck app hasn't. I've sent them requests as to when they'll add it, but I've not had a response.

I disabled the vehicle dimensions feature when our sat nav advised access to a site in Yorkshire was not possible, I knew it was fine as we go every year.
Waze is just fine, no more expensive sat nav’s for us.

I believe Tom Tom have now moved away from App development.

Apologies and now looking at the App in the App store, they certainly appear to remain very active with the latest update only 2 days ago.

I have Road Lords, similar to Waze, but aimed at HGV drivers and can be altered to to show your dimensions. I’ve got it on Android and don’t know if it works on apple.
It does do the job though.

Do you know if it now works on Apple play , amd if you can add vehicle dimensions ?

Hi Russ M

The Tomtom Go Navigation App still available and works on Apple CarPlay but it is car based only and you do no have the option to input vehicle dimensions.

You might check if the Tom Tom Go truck truck is available as software only - iPad/iPhone then all sorted regarding CarPlay

I don't I'm afraid. My current setup is to have CoPilot RV running on my phone and Waze via Apple Play. Not great and just wish one of the developers would update their software to enable use via CarPaly; can't be that difficult and surely only a matter of time.........

I wouldn't get too hung-up about SatNavs that allow you to enter vehicle characteristics. Al the ones that I've tried have failed at some time or other - I think it's just a placebo...
I use CarPlay now but not found an app that routes for 'lorries'. I don't think you're much worse-off, however.

Hi. We have recently picked up our new Van, Globecar 540 which has the pioneer Avic evo1 DT2 C GR installed. Whilst this has Apple car play etc , the built in pioneer sat nav is Motorhome specific and does allow measurements to be put into the vehicle profile - I only mention this in case this is the same unit as yours.

Thanks for the thought but there is no sat nav built in to ours.

Does anyone who uses the Tom Tom App know if you can transfer in your own POI, like your saved campsites, archies, location of supermarkets etc, and create My Places (the old favourites) just like you do on the dedicated unit. I’m very familiar with my Tom Tom and our new Fiat Ducato will not come with a sat nav function, & no option to upgrade to 10” that does, any more but does have CarPlay

Couple of answers to this thread. the TomTom iOS app does sort of support adding dimensions and route planning accordingly, but you have to use the online MyDrive website to plan a route and then sync that route to your phone. Works great when planning ahead, but not so good if you are on the move and don’t have time to go online and plan the route.

You can also create My Places using the online website and they will also sync to the phone.

I haven’t tried to import POIs, but I understand you can also do this via the MyDrive website.

The MyDrive site works well and I have been using it for a few years to plan my towing routes. You can find it at https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/

Update - just seen on the MyDrive small print - it supports importing your own POI files, but it can’t sync these to the Go Navigation app.

You use the Maps App from an i phone to display on to a suitably equipped Apple Car Play device in your vehicle, provided the iPhone is connected via the cars USB socket. Ive found it very useful in my Hyundai i10 which has the radio head display but is not equipped with a sat nav.

Does anyone know where any of these MH apps gets their data from? I mean who has mapped the width of all the roads and bridges in the UK, or do they, as my Avtex Sat Nav seems to, just route you down main roads?
As an aside - careful using Wayze - as when driving my car in London it can take you down narrow streets and even through housing estates. If 2 Wayze users are on the same street heading to the same plays Wayze will deliberately route you both differently which can lead to the above.
