I have been looking at the different swing out bike racks for PVCs and they do one that seems to attach to the towbar flange plate. This swings out and you attach your bike rack to that. It doesn't seem as eye wateringly expensive as some of the dutch ones, memo, van swing and busbiker. It also looks as though it would be easier to move when we change the van in a year of two? Our thule bike rack is lovely and sturdy but even with a 2 inch spacer and tilting it we can only partially open a door.
We've thought about the Atera strada DL3 and selling our Thule but in the blurb from roofbox co they do recommend not using it for 2 electric bikes due to weight. I know lots of funsters do.
Just wondered if any funsters knew anything about them? Thank you.

I had a towbar fitted on my car by them and they certainly seemed to know what needed doing, got the correct wiring loom plugin first time (apparently not an exact science on Peugeots) and made a very tidy job of it. They are always busy so they must have a good reputation. Would you like me to pop up to them to have a look at it if they have one in stock, they are only 5 mins up the road?

That's very kind of you. We are thinking that if it would work on our van then we might perhaps try to go up there en route to Malvern. We live in Dorset so could have a mini break. In the brief write up it says it just attaches to the flange plate which seems too good to be true. I am surprised it's not attached to the van at the ends. It seems a bit cheeky of me asking you to visit. I was going to email them to get more info. It's £695 plus p&p which believe it or not is much cheaper than the other versions!

Thank you again. I will get a bit more info about it now that you’ve said they did a good job on your towbar and seem to be busy. I will keep you informed. I’ve never been to Cambridge so a few days would be nice.

We used them on our auto sleeper and was very pleased. Stopped at the tall trees site by the river just off of the roundabout near Tesco, the night before and went in first thing.

We used them for a towbar about five years ago.

When we arrived the entire towbar Assembly was already laid out on the floor, ready to fit.

Excellent service, no complaints.

We used them to fit a towbar to our last Motorhome about 8 years ago. They did a very good neat job,so we were very happy with there service.

They fitted a scooter rack to our old Eldiss.
Great service, picked up from train station as well.

I'm afraid I have a different tale. I had ours fitted last week. On checking once home I discovered that they had removed the original rear garage supports in order to fit the towbar and not replaced them. While removing they damaged the joint between the garage floor and the rest of the van and tried to hide this by covering some of the damage with duck tape. They ripped off the gas drop vent covers (which could have unscrewed) and didn't replace. This job was apparently carried out by a part time employee. After several trips back and forth all now is happily resolved by the owner. It's fortunate we live nearby. If you do use them ensure you check everything underneath when you collect.

Hi Carolyn, how did it go with your investigation. I am also thinking of a tow bar swing out and prefer the Memo Van-Swing which is EUR 725

After a lot of dithering we ended up just buying the Atera Strada DL3 bike rack which attaches to the towbar on our PVC. We used it for the first time this weekend and it does work. We have a witter towbar but the towball has to be on the lower two holes. We have a 2 inch spacer but we reckon a 1 inch one would be OK and are going to try that on our new van. It’s the cheaper option and maybe not the best but good enough for us. A bit of a fiddle getting the bikes in the right position on the journey out but we took lots of photos so easy peasy coming home! The locks are a joke, the keys looked a bit familiar and the ones from our Thule easyfold 931 work nicely as well. We obviously would not rely on them alone anyway.

I do like the Memo Van swing but in the end we went for the cheaper option.
