Sitting in Gairloch just now and thinking of moving on to Skye.

I can’t get the online booking for Portree campsite to work, they are not answering the phone and the CCC site is full.

Don’t want travel there if it’s busy and all the stop overs are full.

Any feedback from anyone who is in Skye just now?

Thanks.

CWH might know 👍
Thanks Sandra
buntyb is touring Skye just now
Portree looks full
Dunvegan looks full
You might get onto Glenbrittle which doesn't accept bookings
Sligachan has opened and might have space

We spent a night at Auctertyre Farm aire (mainlans)just which is about 20 min drive on the way to the Skye bridge. £10, no EHU but has black & grey plus water. Very nice.
Then stayed at the campsite at Uig. £21 for all services. More an aire than a campsite. One night was enough. However, very handy for Fairy Glen. we did notice that there is a lay-by / viewpoint on the way out of Uig which three vans stopped overnight.

We didn’t book any of the two above in advance.

We passed Kinloch campsite at Dunvegan. It didn’t appear to be full and it’s a nice site & location. Handy for Dunvegan castle and going to Neist Point. We stayed there back in July.

Sligachan and Glenbrittle also have campsites in scenic areas.

Been using Search for Sites. There are quite a few places to stop overnight. Just pot luck if you get an off grid park up. it is busy but seems to be more busier on the east side.

Currently at Tokavaig. Gorgeous park up but my god, the single track road is hairy.

I have been speaking to a couple from Skye this evening and they say that Portree and Broadford camp sites are turning away up to 60 vans a day as they are fully booked, so if your planning on going expect it to be busy. It would explain why they don’t answer. They also said that Wild camping is very frowned upon due to idiots seen dumping toilet cassettes off a pier !

There’s no excuse for those who dump their black waste like that. My OH regularly picks up rubbish when we are out and about. He filled a carry bag yesterday at Neist Point, which included a dirty nappy in a nappy bag 🤢.

Stay there many a time beautiful view, if fine weather .
I thought about it one time last winter on my way back from the dentist but decided against because [1] there was a howling gale coming in off the Atlantic and [2] it was pitch black and I didn't altogether trust drivers coming round the corner not to misinterpret the van reflectors, miss the turn & drive straight into the back of my van :wondering:

Thanks all. I think I’ll move on and visit there in the spring, before the midges start 😀

We did Skye last year, never used a camp site, wild camped for 5 nights. Lots of places to stay without causing any problems. Neist point is always busy though and the worst campers there were the VW type brigade having bar b ques on the road.
