I am so intrigued by this. I am blonde hair green eyes, my brother is blonde hair blue eyes, my dad was blonde hair blue eyes, and my mum was blonde hair hazel eyes. When I am anywhere abroad, I am always asked are you Swedish or just English!!! I would love to do a DNA test. I wonder how much it costs?? and how you go about it.

Gina.

The cost varies - I paid about £80 and got 3 months subscription to Ancestry included. It’s easy to do… spit in a tube and send it off. The results take around 6 weeks.

I did mine recently and found the results fascinating!

My wife and I have both taken one of these tests.

I am going to do it. I am so intrigued by it. Thank you for the info.

You’re welcome!

If you use Ancestry you’ll be able to see all the DNA matches that you have with other people as they provide this information along with the test results. It will list the DNA matches with the cMs (centimorgans) that you share and therefore the likely relationship, eg, 1st cousin, 3rd-5th cousin, etc etc.

You can build your family tree easily - it does take time though. It’s amazing what information is out there!

Got me intrigued now as our family has a "cloudy" past on both sides.
My sperms donor was not my "Grandfathers" as Gran was a bit of a Minx.
On mum's side, one or two "Oh this little bundle is one of your "cousins" coming to live with us.

I found Ancestry pretty hard work ,got the Dna test and all I needed to know was which lot of relatives where from mums side, which on Dads side to save 50 % of the work, no use whatsoever, they then want you to hire someone to search for you. It's all geared up to there money machine.

You can hire an expert, there’s a tab on the top of one of the pages if you wish to but I have never had any prompting from them.

The DNA results are given but it is up to the individual to construct their own family tree. The DNA result also gives your geographic makeup which is incredibly interesting.

Using it as you did wouldn’t have given you anything like the full possibilities available.

If you have the DNA test Gina you’ll probably be surprised at the mix!

I found that I’m of totally Celtic origins and Norwegian. I always did like Celtic designs and feel drawn to Scandinavia… could this be my inner Viking calling out to it’s past!??? 😊

Was it vikings that did the raping and pillaging?

That's interesting I was thinking maybe Nordic in my DNA, but I have always been suspicious of these Ancestry search companies.
