Long shot I know, I am buying a roof window off a funster and he thinks couriers will damage it
Anybody travelling through Essex could collect and fetch a bit further up north.
We are in County Durham but I can travel to meet you somewhere.

Cheers
Paul

State the size it might help

CazPaul could you look at where half way would be and offer seller cost of fuel to bring to you there maybe? Or at least part way to meet you

some couriers are quite good value though, we bought a large table from Stone 77 miles away, the driver said £1 / mile and I presumed he meant round trip, but he only charged me £77 to bring 200kg of Oak table to my house and unload

sorry it is too far off us to help, although we might be close to half way ?

Yes I would offer some fuel monies, if it was down to me I would just say wrap it really well, box it and I would arrange courier
Seller thinks it would get damaged though

How do you think said roof windows get sent to dealers? Should be OK to bubble wrap in a good sturdy cardboard box. Why would the seller think it would get damaged, I have posted cameras, lenses and all manner of things, I have even bought wine glasses from JL and they have arrived undamaged!!

I can see the sellers concerns finding a box big enough would be challenging enough

having seen the back of delivery vans unless well wrapped it could easily get damaged then who pays ?

Get me the outside dimensions please Paul ASAP.

I’m down at Penge in London for a couple of nights, heading back to Durham on Sunday, BUT I’m in the car and collected a new sea kayak from Derby on the way down today, which has the roof racks taken up, so the window will have to fit across the rear seats, or stand up in the rear foot well.

My Labrador has the tailgate taken up, so I can’t even drop the rear seats, but if it fits inside, I’ll collect it for you.

Wonderful Ken although the size is 980mm by 675mmm so quite large as it is the main large roof light, aperture cut out for the roof is 960mmm x 655 mm the exterior dome is a bit wider

It isn't boxed but it's a large object.

I could collect straight from yours and stick you a few quid for your trouble.

CazPaul Storm Ciara was no match for a stalwart Durham lad and his Labrador ??

The M11 being closed in both directions slowed things down a bit, then the diversion tried to get me on to the A14 at a point that was also closed due to road works, so I ended up discovering some beautiful Cambridgeshire villages (The Wilbrahams?) as I let the sat nav do its job along the back roads, to avoid the chaos.

The window is safe and sound at mine ready for you calling down in the morning. There’s no hurry if the weather is still bad.

Ken, thank you so much for this, wonderful gesture, I know you said you don't want money and to donate to MF charity but do you like a nice drink, whiskey or something.

Weather been shocking up here not ventured out all day but work tomorrow so see you in the morning

Well done Ken. You are an absolute star. (y)

I do know that Paul drinks quality Port, and if that was your chosen evening tipple, maybe with a spot of Stilton cheese, I just know he'd love you to have a bottle. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Paul,

Other than gin, there’s not much I don’t like, but in all seriousness it’s not necessary. When I turned off from my usual route home, from the M25 to collect the window, my sat nav was only showing 17 miles to my destination.
