Hi,
we are planning a short trip accords the Chunnel in August and don’t want to travel too far into France this time .
our unit it is 8.5 m long and we have an awning , so the pitch needs to be pretty big . Also needs to be dog friendly

So, it would be great to get some recommendations for sites in the area , suitable for a week stay , close to the sea and close to a nice local town or village .

many thanks in advance .

Le Crotoy & St Valery in the Baie de Somme about 75 mins south of Calais. Close to the Sea, great cycling, walking etc.

We like Les Auberpines great site, pool, brasserie, good large pitches and its quiet. Easy cycle into Le Crotoy.

Don’t go to Le Touquet. Too many people there already 🤣🤣 ..... it is one of our favourites. Good Aire on the sea front. Nice restraunts and beach.

We spent the first 2 weeks of this trip using aires between pas de calais and Normandy, no booking, pay as you ho, totally flexible and mostly sea view. I don't understand why a motorhomer would limit themselves to one site.

Another vote for La Bien Assise

Don’t answer if you can’t be supportive. I don’t need any critical comments about where and how long we stay in one place. That’s up to us surely. Thanks.

There's quite a lot of that on here,
Q: Which C&MClub site is good near....?
A: Hate sites never use them....

Q: What's the best way to get over to France?
A: Never go there, hateful place, stay in UK and be patriotic

Apart from that it's quite good Fun, you'll get used to the other stuff::bigsmile:

I was only being flippent, about my suggestion because everyone on here knows how we love gravelines but you did say between Calais and Dunkirk and gravelines is on the coast just about halfway between the two, the village with shops and bars is about 5 minute walk from the Aire, and there is even a bus station outside the gate if you didn't want to drive anywhere .
There is a market on Fridays also a market in bourbourg on Tuesday, excellent restaurant on site, and various places within easy drive.
We have just spent 5 days there and would have easily stayed another 5.

We stayed at Camping unicorn in Dunkirk. Had a fab time, short walk to the seafront and one of the best mussel restaurants in France on the front. Also stayed at Camping Jeugstadion a short distance from the centre of Ypres. We like to spend a minimum of 3 nights, preferably more on one site as I like to be settled in and enjoy the locality We cycle and use public transport to get around which works well for us. Enjoy 😉

Many years ago (caravanning) we stayed at a lovely little at Oye Plage which is just along the coast from Calais towards Dunkirk but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

To be clear:-This is a forum, so if you put it out there anyone can comment. I made what I considered to be a helpful suggestion. You are of course under no compulsion to agree but you don't have any rights to stop anybody commenting on anything at all as long as it's not insulting or condescending which I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

I dont intend to get into a debate with you.
your comment was “condescending “in my view , when you said , and I quote
.......“ I don't understand why a motorhomer would limit themselves to one site” , which is none of your business and which wasn’t helpful in any way.

As you say , I have no rights to stop you commenting , but I do have the right to tell you how I feel about your comment.
if you dont like what I’m planning to do and then asking for helpful recommendations about , just scroll on by. No need to troll or bait.
Most others have been really helpful which is surely what these forums are al about.
enough said.

Can highly recommend the site at Ypres that we stayed on last year for 2 nights only 20 min walk from the centre. Jeudstadion +32 57 21 72 82.

The nightly 'Last Post' ceremony in Ypres should be compulsory to attend for all schoolchildren - and adults! Go earlier in the day first though and start reading all the names, both under the Mennen Gate and up the stairs ..... and their ages.

The Bien Assize restaurant gets booked up months in advance so if you want a really fantastic proper French meal - it is not only used by the campers!

Yeah we went again last week , we go every time we are in France, and it never lessons in its magnitude, that may not be the right word but you know what I mean, and I am always surprised when talking about it, the amount of people that havnt been, even folks that go to France and Belgium regularly.
Every time you look at it you just can't believe it, how many died.

Read between the lines as many were under 16 years old, walk along the Menin Road notice (not so many now) the blue enamel house numbers these were German Billet numbers, that is how close the front line was.
I did took many tours of the region look out Langemark German cemetery, without doubt this has the greatest effect on young and old on all nationalities. From memory 3000 students are buried here, research the reason for their being placed with little or no training in this situation. All in all a chilling reflection on man kind, of all nations

And also many that it says fought under a different name, how did this come about if they know both names, I know it's not important but is a bit of a puzzle.

Quite often they enlisted in groups, not just the PALS. On death a friend would offer the correct name, plus bodies if found of course had clues. There are many ways that the correct identify was tracked, however this brings to mind this could have been done before enlistment.
Nothing in conflict is clear cut or Lilly White, haste has its own rules.

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone , much appreciated .
will be heading to the site in Dunkirk, then to Ypres . Looking forward to it , and thanks for your help
