Has anyone had any good results with an off the shelf ceramic wax DIY.

I haven't tried the Turtle wax version but the Meguiars is really good.

If you don't mind me asking what was your method from washing polish and wax. I have an electric buffer should I use this with the ceramic coating. I've never used an electric buffer before...is it necessary or even useful?

I have the same spray. I wasn’t really expecting much of an improvement as I didn’t do the prep work that is done for full ceramic coating. However, I am surprised and delighted as I did it last Autumn and by now my paintwork would have lost its shine. It is still looking great - so will give it another treatment in the Spring!

Not used that one but on old van i used Autoglym easy to put on and good results

Was that the Maguire's or turtle wax version?

A second vote for this.

I have used it on both our motorhome and seasonal caravan with good results. It is not as good as “professional “ finishes but is very easy to apply and lasts longer than waxes I have used.

Would using my electric polisher help whilst using this product?

I don’t know.

I have never dared to use mechanical means of polishing in case of damaging the surface.

The Auto-Glym ceramic coating wipes off very easily with a cloth and produces its shine without heavy polishing. Simply wipe over with a micro-fibre duster.

I've bought some Diamondbrite glaze, it's the pro one. It says apply with a cloth or pad using horizontal & vertical strokes do not use a circular motion.
Not used it yet but sounds like it's made my fairly new orbital polisher redundant.

Lenny would you still use a mechanical polisher before wax/ceramic on an old van?

I thought about this but eventually I dipped my hands in my pocket and paid someone to do a two year professional coating done in a studio on both the van and the car, including paint correction and preparation. The actual coating comes in a small bottle and is carefully wiped on then left to cure as it bonds with the surface. The results are very good indeed and well worth (in my opinion) the money. The dirt just falls off when washed ……… the shine is amazing

With a ceramic glaze you are supposed to clean all the wax of first.
So I don't really know.

Mine is a new van so I plan to use a clay bar then put the coating on.

I'll just give it a good wash and a light polish then maybe a clay bar then try a DIY ceramic wax.

The ceramic on our van is Williams F1 which is a turtle wax brand. All I can say is the van looks as shiny as it did 6.5 years ago

Maguire's here.First coating takes a bit of work.Don't drift off onto unpainted surfaces, or black plastic trim. Stay in place though wash after wash, I just silicone blade ours off now then a wipe over with synthetic cloth, job done.
Mike.

The detailer who did the van had researched it with the manufacturer and tried it on the black plastic (with my permission). It looks really good

I've been using Autoglym Aqua wax for a couple of years now. You spray it on sparingly while the car is still wet after washing and rinsing, and then leather it off immediately with leather or microfiber cloth.
The water beads great, paintwork shines and it's no effort to do. It can leave tiny water marks if the cloth gets dirty but you can buff them off when totally dry 👌

You don't need a buffer to apply this, just wash, rinse off then apply the spray, my preferred method is to then work it in with a microfibre cloth then rinse off with a hose. Dry off and give it a quick buff with a dry cloth. I do use it on the motorhome but I don't have a pic. She does come up nice & shiny though :dance2:

The order is ..

1. Wash
2. Clay bar
3. Polish
4. Wax
5. Ceramic coating

It’s only the polish that you can do with a machine….

Then after the weekend it takes order some new arms and shoulders….😎
Wax then ceramic coating? I thought the ceramic coating was the wax equivalent?

Is this safe to use with graphics on the van. I have a hymer MLT570 crossover. Also, how much do you need to do all the van.

I've used the turtle wax one. It only needs a light mist and rubbing with a microfibre cloth. I've just sold our old car it had professionally applied ceramic coating then an accident repair on the front end. I couldn't really see a huge difference between the two halves! I did the turtle wax ceramic coating as something that's fairly cheap and looks better a bit longer between washes and it seems to do just that. I think the professionals ones are largely snake oil and marketing they try to sell you one every time you buy a car for a good reason....... the commission!

I disagree with that apart from the sales people at car dealerships who charge over twice that of a proper detailer for a shoddy job. Proper ceramic coating needs full surface preparation and is then simply applied with a small sponge and left to bond without any buffing or further treatment, usually overnight in the workshop. I will try and find the panel on the van where he applied half before taking the photo to show the difference. The dirt simply doesn’t stick to the vehicles now and cleaning is hugely easier.

I have used Diamondbrite twice on my Hymer and I see no problems with the graphics but my van is twelve years old and the newer graphics may be different. Mine appear to be metallic. The only problem with my graphics is that they have shrunk very slightly so there is a tiny gap at joins now but I am sure that is nothing to do with the Diamondbrite. I am due to do my third application because there are places where the rain does not wash the dirt off. But that is a very long hard weekends work.

Sorry I forgot to answer the last part, it is very economical I have done my 7mtr Hymer twice and a Citroen Grand Picasso once and I think I have only used one pair of bottles (it is a two part system) perhaps two. I will have to count my bottles when I get home mid March to check. I used it on every surface, glass and plastic windows, including the windscreen and mirrors. The wiped part of the windscreen obviously wore off quickly but the non wiped parts still bead the water.
