I know lots of you take your bikes – for transport, leisure or other reasons.

For my sins, I have been more infected than most with the cycling bug. I race time trials so train and/or ride several times a week.

My idea is that, when we travel, I’ll probably go out for a couple of hours each day for a combination of training and seeing more of the surroundings.

I’m wondering if there are any other hardcore road cyclists out there - to swap notes about destinations and how you keep your training going while you’re away - maybe even to meet up and ride together one day!

We cycle to see the area but my days of racing are over, I say we as we have a Tandem amongst other things.

We have a tandem too although my wife drew the line when I tried to do intervals on it! Haven’t yet tried it in the garage of the Arto but reckon it’ll go in if I take the wheels off.

Another tandem rider here also.
I mostly travel by myself and ride road, gravel and mountain bike. As I'm getting older Is am riding less mountain bike as I don't mend as well as I use to.
I try to choose my "site" to coincide with area suitable for riding, canal in bad weather, hills in fine weather, Netherlands Belgium when ever possible.
Phil.

Road cycling for me. I can recommend a site next to lake Bala. A decent ride is around the lake and then over Bwlch y Groes and arround lake Vyrnywe and back it’s a decent couple of hours with a terrific view when it stops raining. It’s steep climb but worth the effort.

Ours goes in the Flair with the front wheel out and a bit to spare at the back, although it is a relatively short bike.

As you know with a Tandem you can work as hard or as little as you like but it doesn’t necessarily show in the speed of the machine ?

I'm all things bike, road, mountain, hybrid, race and always take one of them on the van. Do about 5000 miles a year but don't race anymore.

Perhaps I'll join you when the stabilisers come off.

I did this one during the summer. Lots of routes from Bala.

Off topic but I may advertise my Graham Weigh winter training bike soon... I was deliberately knocked off my road bike last December by a nutter with roadrage and haven't been back on the road since.. I splashed out on a Wattbike as it's not as dynamic an experience but much safer :)

The bike is in superb condition, fully serviced and ready to go... 56cm I think

I'll put it in the classifieds once I've made the final decision to sell

Still waiting for news about the compo as thankfully I had 3 witnesses... The driver went to court and much to my amazement got a £360 fine, £80 costs and 6 points (he'd be charged more for littering). I got 3 fractures in my collarbone which required a 4 hour op to fix and a broken hand they couldn't repair... plus a mass of cuts and grazes... that'll teach me for passing a car and then getting wiped out at 30mph! Still he had to try twice to hit me

We just do leisure cycling now, but seem to collect bikes. At the moment we have a tandem, two hybrid / mountain bikes, 4 electric bikes, one road bike, a Raleigh “ Yellow Jersey” ( sounds good but it’s an old 3 speed ladies bike) and I just sold two Bromptons.

I fancy a Brompton for taking away in the MH

Not that hardcore, my longest ride to date is 102 miles I think, ride partner wasn’t very well afterwards lol?
The toy I use is a full carbon Ribble Gran Fondo with shim 105.
It’s sat gathering dust in my bedroom at the moment haha. ? Not had the opportunity to go out much this year.
One thing I certainly don’t do is go cycling with my Lycra on whilst on holiday. ?☺️

We meet a guy the other year up in the Spanish Mountains out and about for a few hours each day. His wife was not that impressed as she was left behind with nothing to do.

Yep, more road tandem riders here, currently in the pyrenees ticking off some very tough climbs.

This is one we went up yesterday from Luc Saint Sauveur called Luz Ardiden, after going up to Circ Gavarnie. Brilliant climb.

Hoping I have fixed a recurrent front puncture issue (twice) which is no fun when descending! ( Rim tape issue I think)

If you want some routes my wife records them on Strava. PM me if you want to follow her and look at the routes.

Wow. What a stunning piece of road! Great picture. Have sent you a pm.

Another one who used to ride quite a lot. I rode in a couple of Etape de Tour rides, including riding solo from home to the start of one in St. Galmier. These days I just take a mountain bike as my wife prefers to ride off road.

A casual cyclist here with one or two bikes (my wife might be reading :giggler::giggler:). Not doing much for a while now, waiting for a hernia op.
My cycling year normally centres on the TdeF, we follow it an I like to do some of the route whilst waiting for the race to come thru. Usually we target the Alps or Pyrenees.
Here we are broken down on Alpe d'Huez last year......

No racing for me but I do ride over 10,000 miles per annum predominantly on the road but also the track and gravel. If we are only away for a week or so I take the gravel bike and use the cycling paths where possible and use my riding time as a form of active recovery. Hoping to do the Marmotte alps again next year but this time take my bike in the MH ?
We have a few hills in Wales to practice on ?

I use a road bike at home and have a hybrid on gravel tyres in the van. I do a few 50 miles sportives each year on the road bike at home and more leisurely rides from the van. Last week we were down in Provence so I thought it would be a good Idea to pedal up Mont Ventoux, on the hybrid. I've had better ideas I must admit, but still went ahead. That has to be the hardest thing I've ever done, but what an experience.
