Its cost nothing to send these out, so send out a million and you will get some bites.

I'm am still waiting for my $35 million from Goodman Thomson a very nice African bank director who was left the money by his grandfather. I sent the $10,000 he asked for so he could do the transfer so he could get the money out of Africa. 🤭 :pray2:

Hard to believe that some people can fall for these scams. Will say some are very clever though.

More Parasites. What can be done about these vile scum ?
Phil

Scam Baiting is the solution.
For keyboard warriors with time on their hands join in the fun and give the scammers a taste of their own medicine
419eater is the best known site
https://www.419eater.com/ but there are others

It's certainly worth taking a look at the 'trophy room' on 419 eater at the vast and intricate ways they have got the scammers to 'go on safari' to collect the vast sums of money they (have not) been sent

Hope that is true.. The bustards.

Did anyone see the programme re the pensioners being scammed out of their money.?

It makes me angry that I am being pushed and pushed into using internet banking... I don't WANT to. It almost feels like bullying.

Anyone sending me requests for money or surveys gets deleted. I have as yet never lost any of the services they threaten to withdraw. If I do lose a service it can be resolved by contacting the supplier.

Did you see the programme last night? It's big business and was heartbreaking. :(

Very nearly happened to a 90 year old friend of the family.
Luckily the taxi driver that had been asked to pick up her cards realized what was going on and called the police who then followed him to the drop off. 2 were arrested.

I had a request from my service provider to re-set my password - WHY?
I thought I was being scammed and asked the genuine company to confirm this was not a scam. I was asked to get in touch with customer services because my concern was not security related.
Not security related? What the hell is it then, being asked to re-set your password for no reason?

Having similar experience with my Paypal account and a request for new bank account details.

Unfortunately Internet banking is no longer the future, it's here now.

There are a number of banks that only operate via the internet, they have no branches.
Even the big high street banks are now quietly declining new customers that are unable or unwilling to use internet banking.

We have 5 maybe 10 years before high street banking disappears completely.
(Branches will remain in big towns and cities)

Broadstairs, with a population of 25,000, and 100's of thousands of summer visitors had 4 banks 4 years ago. Now it has none (with Nat West promising not to be the last bank to leave six months before they left.)

The entire Isle of Thanet now down to 8 banks, for a winter population of 250,000 and 4.2 million visitors who bring in £319m a year. All but three of the banks will be closed within the next few years.

I admit I'm as guilty as the rest, as I run a business, I probably spend a hour every day doing internet banking, I can't remember the last time I stepped into a branch, certainly not in the last year.

COVID has not improved the situation, I got £200 out of the ATM back in March before lock down. I still have at least £50 in my wallet, I just don't use cash from one week to the next anymore, and since 2017 I have written one cheque.

Was your password 'password' by any chance ?
:giggle:

Companies are now introducing:
A list of passwords you can not use (including password, starwars and arsenal)
A minim 8 character length (many are 12 or 14)
a secondary character (a number or a capital)
Many they are now introducing "2FA" (Two Factor Authentication), which means that if you log on via your PC then you will be asked for a thumb print or a pin code sent to your phone.

It is only a matter of time before all banking sites will have 2FA as a minimum. You can recon facial recognition will follow.

Paypal, BT, Inland Revenue, --------Bank, ------ credit card and......
I just ignore them all and surprisingly, the heavens have not opened on me and my threatened accounts stand firm and proud.
Now, about that $15 million I've won in that Nigerian lottery, I really must chase that one up with a donation to that nice banker who was kind enough to inform me of my good fortune.

With you on that one movan
I don't want or indeed trust internet or phone banking. But how much longer can we resist

Just had similar regarding O2, unable to take payment.

My son had one recently for his phone contract from 3, that was very believable, took some digging to figure it out, fortunately we have brought him up to be quite savvy about money & he doesn't give his details to anyone, or click on any links 😠

like you we will not have anything to do with internet banking we just phone the bank and let them deal with it

Received message not a Whatsapp purportedly from Paypal telling me that my account would be suspended until I'd agreed to their new T&Cs. There was a link to the T&Cs. As I'd never received a message from PayPal (always emails) and they always addressed me by Mr (surname) (not so on the message) I deleted the message without clicking on the link.
Be careful out there!

Been using Internet banking for over fifteen years its so convenient, no queuing, use it anywhere in the world, and now you just need a finger print scanner on your phone to log in. whats not to like?
Security......or lack of it...

Many years ago I was asked for personal details by a scammer.
I gave them Gordon Brown's details, at #10.
I then started to get emails to Gordon for many years later...

I have facial recognition on my phone, if I want to spend money via the phone then it checks me out to confirm that I am who I say I am. Its the same when I open the phone, if I'm wearing sunglasses or a mask etc then it won't open and I need the passcode.
Had to set it up when I bought the phone, there was a program set up to take photos of my face from all angles, its not bothered about the hairstyle, so my lockdown hair to my very short hair now makes no difference.

Security......or lack of it...
Do you know anyone who has lost money with internet banking, without giving their details out to someone else? I was converted by my boss explaining that the company had internet banking (about 15 years ago) I realized that if the firm's millions were safe,my little bit should be OK. So far so good 😄

Security......or lack of it...

If truth be told, I believe that internet banking is far more secure than face to face banking.
It's certainly way more secure than phone banking or cheques.

The only reason cheques are still secure is most people under 25 have never even seen one, and many people now in their thirties have never written one.
So if you present a cheque to a bank and you don't have grey hair you are liable to be questioned and asked for ID.
(As a young looking 40 something of my acquaintance found out, but she also gets her ID questioned in pubs!),
