So, sat on a site in Spain, " Gear unavailable " Reading on dash board, I'm going no where.
I have read other posts and checked issues suggested, fuse, oil, etc. Everything seems fine.
If it was a clutch failure wouldn't this occur while moving rather than while stood ? All was fine when I pulled onto site, now nothing??
Site has arranged for local garage to come and look today but presently at a loss.🤬
Any ideas 💡 anyone?

There are numerous reasons from low fluids to faults logged in the ecu. Best way to explore is MultiEcu software on a pc.
One chap found that the cause was simply a wrong size battery (100ah but should have been 110ah) No idea why, but he's not had a problem since changing it.
You can sometimes clear ecu faults by removing the negative from the battery for 1/2 hour and reconnecting again.
Good luck

Could it be a software issue? Happened to us last week, but after switching off and back on it behaved. Ours happened when we’re were actually travelling and that message came up when we stopped at a roundabout.

Had that happen the other week when bringing Smileo back from storage and BossLady was driving - stuck in 2nd in auto and manual.
Switched off in bus stop quick look at fluid levels etc. Restarted and everything was okay and no repeat.

What levels are we talking about please?

I have been advised in the past not to start the engine until all the startup processes have happened and the lights have settled down.

Yes #MeToo as in foot on brake, turn on ignition on, put seatbelt on then start the engine. I do it that way now and so far 🤞no probs.

Have now disconnected battery thanks.
Mine is 100 ah but has been OK up to now?

Update.
Disconnected battery but Spanish mechanic turned up before the 30 minutes were up.
Anyway, he's plugged his machine in and the battery is dead, although it starts the engine ok it's not holding charge and as we're on ehu. It's just about staying topped up
Gérard has now gone to find me a battery and will return tomorrow and carry out another diagnostic once fitted . Fingers 🤞crossed.

When my Comformatic could not find gears it was caused by chaffing of the wiring harness under the dash board just, above the brake pedal. It was the fault of the converter not Fiat, fortunately Carthago quickly coughed up for the repair which suggests they already knew of the problem.

You would think the alternator would provide sufficient power to operate the gearbox electronics even with a duff battery. If the battery starts the engine it can’t be totally knacked?

But as part of the startup, comfortmatic hydraulic is trying to check and put gears to neutral (when you switch off engine you are supposed to have left it in gear). If battery issue the ECU will already have an error mode by time the starter engaged?

ours came up with ‘gears unavailable’ and it turned out to be the clutch and dual mass flywheel.
i hope yours is easy fix.

luckily not,as a mate did the job for me,so only had to fork out for the parts, which was an original LUK clutch from Fiat and a dual mass fly wheel from local motor factor.
For info, what was the age and mileage of the vehicle please?

there's two green 30 amp fuses under the bonnet, the bottom one is for the hydraulics on the gear box, if thats blown its a hyd pump fault.
cost me about £500 when mine went.

I've checked them, they're intact, thanks

If the new battery doesn't sort it after the 1st 500 miles then I implore you to find somebody who can do a 'clutch self calibration enable' procedure on Multiecuscan. This will probably save you about £10,000 on replacement gearboxes and Sillyspeed control systems.

tribalbrit , didstrikba k you manage to sort out your alarm/sim?.
Yes and no. The dead battery was the cause of the strikeback arming its self. I have disarmed it and waiting on a new battery. I still don't receive messages to tell me the status even after setting alarm off. Have been onto Vodafone who to be fare gave me 100 free texts but said there is no problem at their end.
So none the wiser. Unable to move van at minute so maybe a bad signal... Will update if anything changes.

Okay so battery not sorted it. Had two guys visit yesterday with various electronic devices, bottom line is nothing appears to be wrong, no faults detected, everything else intact, just can't go anywhere.
Waiting for a another phone call today, not easy when you don't speak the lingo, knew I should have listened more at school.
