Evening all. I'm in the middle of fitting a Sterling BB1260 battery to battery charger. I've got the cables routed and the unit will be housed in the liesure battery/utilities area which is underneath a couch. I'm about to mount the box but I've noticed that it would be far easier for me to mount the B2B flat instead of upright as there will be more room for the wiring and it would be easier to monitor the unit too. There would be no compromise of the vents this way and the area is ventilated. So, question is, does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not this is a viable option, I cant seem to find any info from Sterling? Thanks in anticipation all?

You could ring sterling ..if it was me and that's the most convenient way of mounting to suit you I'd do it..
As long as there is adequate air flow provision the unit has a fan so can't see it effecting the cooling and can't think of any other possible drawback.

I mounted my B2B 1250 flat to a wooden locker floor.
The unit was metal framed, and I had no problems during it's five years of service. It went with the MH when we sold it.

I can't see the 1260 model being any different, but if you find out differently, I'd be happy to be informed. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

It's probably preferable to mount the B2B vertically so any damp or condensation drains away from the unit via the incoming/outgoing cables located at the bottom of the unit. If mounting horizontally it's probably best to mount it on a wooden plinth, say 25mm above floor level, just in case the water plumbing system developes a substantial leak.

Having said that, my mains charger and 12v distribution box are mounted horizontally, directly to the floor within the double floor enclosure (where all the water pipes are located). However, on more recent models of my van, they've mounted them vertically in the garage zone.....presumably, to adhere strictly to the installation guidelines as prescribed by the electrical manufacturer.

Thanks for your replies all. Food for thought there. I will try phoning Sterling tomorrow but as they havent replied to my email I'm assuming that are not operating as normal due to the ongoing covid crisis. Jock, if I get a definitive I will let you know?

Ok, just spoke to the one and only Mr Sterling himself and in his words " I can mount it upside down, inside out or how ever the hell else I want to mount it!"...seems he is a bit of a character!?. So, horizontal for me it is, thanks all for your suggestions.

You are not wrong. He's not very forgiving if you are not technically minded or phrased. :( Abrupt would be the term I think. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
