Quick question to anybody who has had one of these. Are they dated from the day of collection or when the vet sees the dog? Our vet is saying they need a week after seeing the dog to complete the paperwork which leave me a 3 day window at best to book a ferry and should your booking be changed you have the potential for it to expire.

I would book the ferry then book the vet and instruct the vet what date you want it to start.
The vet can't expect you to absorb the 10 days from issue to travel because they need the time.

Mine was dated on the day of collection. You are best asking your vets though.

My dog is seeing the vet next Friday and will be dated from then. Booked on ferry following Tuesday.

Thanks….. he’s booked on the 10th at the vet ….ferry is booked for the 18th……

Best I could do but doesn’t leave much of a margin should ferry have problems.

Just booked and paid for mine at vets in Folkstone. All done on line, tell them when you want to collect it. They prep it you pay and call in on way to ferry/chunnel. They check micro chip and off you go. £99.

I know there's another one who does it for a similar price to Abbeywell near one of the other southern ports but not sure which, have a trawl through the various AHC threads.

Used Abbeywell in Folkestone for a AHC for Pippa £99.
Google Abbeywell vet, top of page ‘Request AHC’ and follow the instructions very simple.
Here in Belgium used a vet to get an EU Passport using the AHC & the written details in her Vaccination card as she didn’t have a UK passport 33€ cos I used a debit card to pay!
All done!

How is it taking a them week to complete the paperwork? My vet says he will do the paperwork (about half an hour’s worth if that) before our appointment then at the appointment he will just scan her chip, I’ll sign the document and take it away.
£100 thank you very much.

I've started a thread today which sort of touches on this subject. But the date on the AHC will be the date of the examination. I collected ours the same day as the examination. I can't see why they need a week but it does take an hour or so to complete.

I used Southmoor Vets at Ivybridge but they were eye-wateringly expensive and will look to find somewhere cheaper next time.

Have you considered getting an EU Pet Passport instead, John?

Yes, we are going to France but intend to put a foot in Spain and see if we can find a friendly vet. In readiness for this I spent a while on the 'phone this morning to get proof from PetLog of the date Charlie was "chipped" as I understand this may be needed.

Used Abbeywell vets in Folkestone on Wednesday.

Date is Wednesday. Not sure why they need to waste time, it can be pre filled in and checked when you collect it.

I will use Abbeywell again. £99 and responded quickly with no fuss.
