I'm a newbie
Thinking of heading to Amsterdam and surrounding area. Also looking at Gaasper Camp site in May. Wondering if anyone been there or surrounding area. Or which site is best. Looks very flat and lovely cycling.
Wondering if anyone been there and advice please. Also if we crossed to Hook of Holland, were they checked the fridge/freezer for fresh/frozen food etc. Also security with bikes.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you all.

Gaasper is a good site with easy trains into Amsterdam, but the last two trips we used a site just north of the city with a free ferry to central station, very convenient if that’s were you are going,
Will try and look up the site,

Ahh what a shame, But Gaasper is a good site with easy walk to train station and cycle paths in abundance,
a few good restaurants in the area as well,
looks like we will be using Gaasper again next time we visit as it’s Swmbo favourite city,

there is a city centre Aire. Then from the Aire a short walk to a ferry across the bay to the rail station free for walking and cycles

We used Gaasper a few weeks ago for a couple of nights. Very efficient booking/checking-in touchscreen kiosk just outside the entrance. Literally 5 mins easy walk to the metro for Amsterdam centre. Buy tickets from reception. Would use again.

If you are heading over early May consider dropping into the Keukenhoff tulip bulb show. An incredible display of flowers. Ends mid May.

And if you are going there, we stayed at Camping Koningshof about a decade ago. Small pitches but otherwise fine. Easy 20m bike ride to Keukenhof and we comfortably beat back another family in a car. IIRC it's 11km by bike off main roads with free parking at the gardens or 16km by car, pay to park and queue to exit.

We also went to Amsterdam. Bus to the local town then direct train paying peanuts. It was a good few years ago so things may have changed

We have stayed at Vliegenbos camp site, easy 10 minute cycle to ferry, take bikes across to Amsterdam city, ferry runs every few minutes, great camp site too.

We use Camping Zeeburg. Tram stop very close to the entrance of the city . Cracking site, looks a bit like a festival campsite on first appearances but is surprisingly exceptionally well run and organised.

Don't drive in Amsterdam. It's like the Charge of the Light Brigade. Bikes to the left of us, trams to the right of us. Into the canal drove the 600, 'cos you can't find a parking space.

And watch for pickpockets in Amsterdam don’t carry a backpack with valuables in.

Indeed. This is from our visit there a few weeks ago. It isn't our vehicle!

There’s a gas filling place down in the harbour that will fill UK calor botttles if you’re stupid enough to pitch up at Gaaspar without having filled your bottles before leave UK - Whoops! 😂
