Hi just curious if anyone uses a fire stick to watch UK TV when travelling in Spain. Not sure how to do it correctly so would be glad of some advice. Thanks folks!

Firestick just needs an internet connection to work anywhere.
So either teather it to your phone (with a big data package) or get a mifi and data sim card.

I got one in my Xmas stocking! Took it away with us over new year(Cheddar). It worked well with our mifi. Can't see any reason why it won't in Europe depending on data allowance.

We have one and are currently using it in Spain. It is a useful complement to the satellite system.

As we get 100gb on both our phones we don’t even use the satellite system anymore.
Fire stick is definitely the way to go if you have a large data package. Plug the fire stick into the back of the television but you do need a usb or socket to keep the fire stick charged.

We bought one on Black Friday, works well in the motorhome with good WiFi or tether off phone or use MiFi if you have unlimited data!

Got one. Installed IPTV on it ...All uk tv, hundreds of movies, all the footy , cricket and lots of other sports wherever we are in Europe.

Use one via a UK SIM card then you can watch uk tv without needing a VPN. Change it to the lowest resolution so it uses less data, and I would recommend setting it up whilst in the uk, with good WiFi, as many of the channels require you to register and then send you emails to confirm your identity before using app on firestick.

Why not use TVMucho as it works on phone, computer or tablet. It is pay as you go as well.

Here is the link:

Tethered phone and smart TV combined occasionally with tablet to download BBC iplayer works fine, what is the point of a firestick with a smart TV?

None. Did I miss the suggestion that there was?

No need to get snotty, just asking!!

You asked and I answered acknowledging that I may have missed something.

I didn’t realise that yours was a rhetorical question.

Chill.

It was not a rhetorical question and your first word as an answer would have sufficed.

In my experience, a Fire Stick is often better than even an expensive 'Smart' TV. It's faster, receives more updates and often has a cache to prevent buffering on poor connections.

You can also download 'TV Player' which gives you access to channels 1-5 (plus some of the usual rubbish) which you can flick about on like a normal TV and the stream is also highly compressed on the free version - using much less data than watching TV 'live' via iPlayer for example.

If you download the first edition of the Motorhome Fun magazine (search 'Motorhome Fun' in your apple App store or Google Play store) I wrote an article on the subject there.

Who long would 100GB last watching TV?
Thanks. And can you use the full amount abroad?

I gave up with a Firestick not impress at all, now use and Android TV box with 64 GB of memory.

Some smart TVs don’t have the ITV hub app listed I think Sony is one of them. Probably one of the reasons some choose to use one. That aside a firestick is a great price of kit at home and on the road just make sure you’ve got the right sim/data package before you set off otherwise it could be costly.

You just hit the nail on the head, smart TV's really restrict you when it comes to downloading the latest apps, they would rather you buy a new TV.
Our Sony at home you can't even get iPlayer since BBC upgraded it a couple of years ago. That's why I use an Android TV box, I can load what I want onto it.

Is that an app available from playstore ?
Does it give you live TV ?
it seemed complicated to me at first but its quite straight forward with loads of how to's on youtube. First of all you have to install the app and register iptv with SIPTV, I think you do this from the firestick so the device becomes operable with SIPTV. This costs £5 but doesn't give you the channels. They give you a MAC number. Then you find a channel provider, this can cost about £60 a year or you can get a month for £5 or a free trial. The channel provider gives you a web address for the channels. Then you go back to SIPTV and they have a 'playlist upload' box where you put in the Mac number they gave you and where you copy and paste the web address from the provider. Then you are set to go. Check the youtube videos for installing it on a firestick they are really good

How have you managed to get it to work, I have it downloaded, but the screen is "squashed* and I am unable to navigate the display?

Hi what you need is the App mouse toggle for Fire TV to navigate the screen I got the paid one cost £1.99, the screen is squashed at first but once you view a programme it goes normal was meant to be watched on phone or tablet. The APP will then let you use the fire TV remote to Navigate the screen

Lowering the resolution. Is it done In the app (I know iPlayer allows a lower resolution) or is it a setting on the firestick which lowers the resolution of everything streamed.

Sorted, thank you Phil, app not easy to navigate, but as you say, the programmes are fine.

Don't think I'd ever buy a smart TV again. Mine, bought about 6 or 7 years ago, has lost everything "smart". I paid an extra £150 for 3D too. Whatever happened to that? ☹
Firesticks are the way to go as long as you have plenty of data. Enough free stuff to watch without paying subscriptions too.

Change the setting on the Firestick it’s self.
