Any Funsters going to see all the new 2020 models Hymer, Dethleffs, Carado and Niesmann+Bischoff at Travelworld this weekend I shall be there for the best part of tomorrow doing some reviews of vans for the magazine. If you're going; look out for me. I'm easy to spot and more approachable than I look :D

Yup must be in camouflage Jim didnt see you!

I went.
I met funsters.
I drank the coffee
I eat the sandwiches.

I even won the chocolate hamper on the raffle !!! ?

Had a quick look at vans but nothing outstanding for me and prices just getting higher and higher.

Weather is looking wet so I guess no Swifts will be there, never mind I think I have seen enough of them now ?

Can you please keep your ears and eyes to the ground to find out what influence/control Thor Industries are excercising on any parts of the Hymer Group since their takeover.

I could not detect anything at N&B Polch a few weeks ago but maybe lips are sealed. I perhaps should have interrogated Niemann Caravaning, as I am sure they have contacts inside N&B.

Well Thor are hardly likely to buy an ailing business and not make changes! My guess would be the V6 Merc chassis, slideouts and double glazed glass windows all round (y)

Didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, usual overpriced plastic N&B etc

Nice to meet you tonka .

Agree with your comment. We will not be changing any time soon :) .

Thor might even put the quality build back into them!
Are you sure of that statement, whenever the yanks get involved with anything the quality drops for cheapness of manufacture.

Some of the best tools I owned were American, made in America, and went to pot when production left the states

Are they openly quoting any user payload figures for that new ‘Hymer Exsis I 580 Pure’ at a weight of 3500? I appreciate its horses for courses territory, but from the pics I don’t think we would change to it from our current 588, but I am curious given the apparent compromises made therein (reduced cupboards, no shelves in garage, only 1 full size garage door etc) presumably with payload/costs in mind?

I thought the only 'ailing business' was Hymer in the USA, not the Group in general. So they might leave the profitable bits alone.

Anyway if they introduced the changes suggested in your post they would rule themselves out of the <3500kg market in Europe.

As a matter of interest is the USA party to the Vienna Convention on driving licences and therefore adheres to the 3500kg definition?

Geoff

I read recently that if hiring a motorhome in the USA that a UK driving license was ok up to way more than 3.5T . 7.5T possibly?

So you are probably right

Usually the main changes are the economy of scale, rationalise the workforce, systems and parts.
