Hi all, I have a small leak in my Alde heating and it seems that it is a pipe and not a joint that needs sorting.

Can I just cut the pipe and replace a section of 22mm aluminium pipe and rubber connectors? Or could I just fire in a length of 22mm Speedfit? Half my house hot water and central heating is speedfit ....

Many thanks for your advice

Paul

Of no use to you . although it will help if my response pushes you back up the list....so you might get a reply.......I had a leak and pipe needed replacing , work to be done on warranty but been waiting for part for 3 weeks now.

I would be more worried why the pipe is leaking ! . Has the pipe been rubbing off something or has it rotted from the inside out ? , If it’s rotten from the inside you have serious problems! , BUT Yes you can replace with either aluminium or speedfit pipe & rubber connectors , if possible replace with equivalent aluminium pipe to retain the same bore , my 4 week old van has a section of the alde heating done with speedfit , making sure you replace the fluids with the correct glycol requirements

I think I would try that first and keep an eye on it. But you could try giving Alde UK a call and see what they would do? FYI most of the DHW on our Clou is in Speedfit.

Thanks all, I only asked as I have some spare speedfit in my shed!! van is 14 years old. ill strip it soon and replace. wish i could do the job without draining the system!!

What fluid is in it ? , when was it last changed ?
what caused the leak ?

It looks like g13 stuff as its pink, no idea when changed last and no idea what caused it. Its possible it was knocked somehow as its directly below the 240 input

Don’t know about Alde systems but if it’s anything like aluminium pipes on a cars air con system then it very common for a bit of grit or crap to get under the rubber on the clamp that then wears through the pipe due to vibration.
