Guys got a 2013 ducato camper, aircon wasn't working as it should so got a guy out to regas it, issue was it wouldn't take much gas even after he vacuumed the system.100g or so opposed to 550g when charged. After pressing aircon button, engine would increase in speed for 2 or 3 secs then cut off, would do this everytime.
Any clues to where I should be looking or is it a job for the garage.
Thanks.

It does sound like a job for the garage.

But then I'm not an expert on a/c...

It is basically not possible to DIY air con systems due to the danger of allowing gases with ozone depletion potential out into the atmosphere. You need special equipment to recover and measure the gases. Go to an air con specialist, not just a company that tops up the gas.

I take it the back pressure wasn't dropping enough to get the gas in... The compressor suction may be blocked then 🤔 certainly sounds like a blockage somewhere.

What was the exact original fault?

No cool air coming through was the original fault he couldn't get the gas in the system so did a vacuum on it , still only took a small amount of gas. When I press the aircon button engine revs lift and a fan noise starts. After about 6 secs fan noise stops.
Garage methinks.

Whatever was sucked out at least as much should have gone back in. If you paid for it go back to them or get your money back, if you did not pay take it to a specialist who knows what they are doing. Plenty of cowboys out there.

To be fair to the boy he didn't take any money because he couldn't gas it. Looks more like a mechanical issue with the fan disengaging after a few seconds.

if there is a blockage, then the compressor can't work.

Going to have a look locally to see who could pinpoint the fault.
Cheers all. 👍

There is a good chance that the issue is with the thermal expansion valve or a blockage of the Venturi orifice. That would account in my view for the inability to remove all the refrigerant. And hence not being able to put back the specified volume.

Specialist with another vacuum down and test fill with nitrogen will highlight any problems.

Ive been repairing Automotive A/C for over 35 years.

Sounds like an odd issue
Haha cheers 👍 nothings ever simple. Looking for an aircon specialist near me to have a look...

If you are in the West Midlands I can recommend a good place who specialise in air con?
