Hi - has anyone had air suspension and levellers fitted. I’m currently looking at VB Air suspension which includes auto levelling. Is it worth investing in them. (Not necessarily VB-Fullair - thanks

Had VB semi air fitted to the back of our van on Monday. I can now raise the rear of the van by about 3 1/2” which had been a problem with ferries etc., and had grounded a few times in France. Also massively improves the ride. I had the Dunlop system on my previous van but the place that fitted the VB was closer. Not cheap but well worth it.

The auto leveling of a 4C air system gives a reasonable amount of leveling I think it's around 5" on the front & 4" on the rear. It is nothing like the range you get with leveling jacks.
We find with the air we can get level 90% of the time. Having spent 7 grand on air I'm not inclined to spend another 5-6 grand for jacks.

The main reason to fit air suspension is for ride comfort and stability, the moderate amount of leveling is a bonus.

Just having VB full air and jacks fitted as we speak, the air levelling will not stop any van movement when walking about or in high winds.

Peanuts to you Lenny ::bigsmile:

Where did you get them done?

SAP in Doncaster cant recommend enough used them on all our other vans nothing is a problem, Mick the owner is one of the few true vehicle engineers left around these days great bloke to (hope he reads this and gives me a discount 😚)

My previous van had VB FullAir combined with E&P levellers. It would automatically drop the air suspension before levelling and was always rock steady. My partner’s current van has just rear suspension combined with E&P levellers and it still wobbles even with the levellers down! Does the air have to be manually let out of the rear suspension before levelling to stop this?

We have VB full air and HPC hydraulic jacks on the current van. Had rear air on the previous van and E&P jacks.

Full air has made a massive difference to the smoothness of the ride, not much to choose from between E and P and HPC as far as I can tell.

Our stuff was all manufacturer fitted.

I can definitely recommend Mick at SAP - he is one of the great perfectionists

Full air will provide a moderate amount of levelling but not stability (you're sitting on deflated bags). The suspension always deflates fully and then pumps-up the low sides. If you move about in the van whilst it's doing this, it will get very confused!
Coupled with hydraulic levellers, the air is let out before the jacks are deployed. Thus you gain a few extra inches of levelling by starting from an even lower position. With hydraulic levellers you get a rock solid platform. You also get the ability to lift the weight off tyres when laid-up.
It's very difficult to argue that they are "worth it". I often think it would be "better" to sell the motorhome and stick to more conventional holidays...
