Hi all, am I missing something? The government state they will open air bridges so we can go to other countries subject to fine details. What about driving say to France from the UK. We are fortunate to have a motorhome and a small cottage in France. (Many hours of overtime) what is the difference between driving to an airport getting the shuttle bus to the terminal queue, sit on a plane in close company with other passengers. Or drive to the tunnel, contactless boarding, drive to a site or in our case the cottage and observe any protocol required. I am not suggesting circumventing any ruling or putting ourselves or anyone else at risk.

I may well be wrong but I think you're applying too much of a literal meaning to 'air' bridge.

Another way of saying it would be 'travel corridor'.

Simply means an agreement between certain countries that people travelling to and from them won't have to quarantine.

Well as it seems you can already travel to France in your MH without hindrence, and then onto Spain for example - what you wish for is already unrestricted.
Air Bridges, the clue is in the name, so doesn't involve road vehicles.

See here - one funster's report of getting to, and travelling through, France:

What about when you return to the UK ?

Well at the minute, unless you fall into one of the exempt categories, you should quarantine whether you fly, or use the tunnel/ferry on return to the UK.

These are the only places you can currently travel between without having to quarantine (unless you fall into an exempt category).

Who must self-isolate
These rules are for UK residents and all visitors coming into the UK.

You will not need to self-isolate for 14 days if you’re travelling to the UK from within the Common Travel Area, that is:

  • the UK
  • the Republic of Ireland
  • the Channel Islands
  • the Isle of Man

An airbridge is a direct path from one plane to a destination in the airport so passengers have no contact with anyone else.

You go into 14 day quarantine if you arrive via ferry and train. The form on line needs to be filled in with your details, 48 hrs before crossing.

Hi, I asked this last week. I ** think/hope ** that the idea is that quarantine will be scrapped on return from a small number of EU countries including France, Spain, Germany but not Portugal. I also hope that the ‘essential travel only’ wording will be lifted for these countries. But we will have to wait till Monday to find out. As I understand how you travel wouldn’t be a factor.

We're relying on quarantene being lifted by 9th July when we're booked onto the tunnel to return to UK. We don't have a home in the UK so just hoping we don't have to go to a government appointed quarantene location for 14 nights - it sound very much like a prison sentence

Do they put the rubber boat people in quarantine? No i thought not. We don't have a place in the UK & the wife is exempt , that just leaves me. :laughing:I'll be putting down the hospital car park where I will be.

Except all the other passengers, every other passenger who has used or touched any type of equipment ,handrail etc; the whole plane unless it is disinfected each time.whereas someone in a motorhome using there own facilities is classed as a plague spreader even though coming from all & every country with a lower infection rate than the Uk.

I'm not getting into any asylum debate but the houses that the authorities would put us in would have to be from a similar random selection based in availability

We have friends that live on Skiathos in Greece, Tui has said they will start flying to the Greek islands as soon as they can, Manthos says living on a small island we have been totally isolated from the rest of the world, we don't want tourists coming here until it is safe for everyone.
Understandable point of view, plus we know a lot of the hotels, cafes and bars will not be open.
So what is the point in going.
