Ah yes ... another government gem!

At least it's not every year, as it is for 7.5 ton+. And that's from age 60.

Get your medical appointments in early! This should cause mayhem.

Another sledgehammer to crack a nut?

Don't panic, my licence is with the DVLA at the moment and I'm awaiting it's return.

It runs out the end of August and I'm 80.

There was no extra medical forms with the reminder and the only extra that stopped me from doing it online was, a new photograph.

If there are any problems, I will keep you all posted. 👍

I think you’ll find 7.5t class C1 requires a medical every 3 years. Just done mine. Class C & CE however requires an annual medical.

I disagree, I watched the TV documentary "Cause of Death" the other month about the death of 4 pedestrians due elderly drivers who shouldn't have been behind the wheel of a car:

One of the major things that came out from this was that there is was no requirement for the medical professional to inform the DVLA if someone is fit/unfit to drive. It was purely left to the driver to self-report and basically some lied to the meds (saying they didn't drive when they did) and/or continued driving when they were told they should not. Had they been forced to stop then none of the 4 pedestrians would have been killed.

Form to be signed by your GP, i wonder how much will doctors charge for that service?
It doesn't have to be your own GP, many use D4Drivers to do it much cheaper and done sooner.

I have a distinct feeling this is deliberate misinformation intended to cause panic and problems. Try checking the DVLA website and reliable news sources.
It's reported in many news outlets so not just this one ... I hope it IS true!

I wonder how vision will be tested? Is that a separate process conducted by an optician?

I suspect the originator of this story is hoping to crash the DVLA website with vast numbers of older people trying to renew their licences before this scam rule change comes into effect.

I am open to being wrong, but believe this is not happening anytime soon if at all, just a proposal with support.

Same here a couple of weeks ago, needed a new photo and that was a song and dance. Got the new licence back in a week.

Erm why dont folks just look at the DVLA web site I cant see any changes

The site tends to only have the current info on and at present nothing has changed so until we get to 1st August nothing will likely appear on there (assuming it's true of course).

When new vehicle tax rates are coming there's usually nothing to tell you about the new cost until they actually 'hit'.

It’s within 90 days so one would expect notice you can’t just change without notifying people

Happy to be wrong

This one says July 2025

Looking at the ‘changes’ it doesnt look like much of a change just formalising what exists.

Up until now, D4D etc. have only had to deal with drivers wishing to retain their C1 (plus HGV drivers etc). I'd guess there are maybe a million over 70 drivers who will suddenly have to go though this procedure and find the money to do it as well.

True but if you'd watched the TV documentary you'd realise that there's a need for something to be done.

The major change (assuming this is correct) is the requirement for a formal medical assessment:

That was what was thought to be coming into play in July not August, my above post suggests that it is now going to be mandatory to have a medical assessment of some sort.
