Hi All,

About to purchase a Pilote P740GJ Sensation £73,000 ish tomorrow hopefully.
Will be kept at home. What do I need to fit please to make a difference to insurance? Alarm , tracker or both or irrelevant?

Thank you.

Everything that makes it more difficult to steal including what you stated and wheel clamps, pedal locks, isolation switch etc.

I think you will find the insurance company will insist on both to Thatchem standard.

What is required will vary according to whom you use.
So I'd choose my insurer first and then obtain the necessary equipment.
You will almost certainly need an alarm and may want to link that to the central locking system for convenience.
If you look at the requirements for a couple of insurance companies, you should be able to find a common denominator and not find yourself tied to one insurer if you want to change later.

Have a look at the number of people on the forum who have had the VanBitz Strikeback/Growler alarm with non-start immobiliser fitted - had ours fitted to the new van last month, can't fault the system so far - insured with NFU and alarm alone secured a discount.

Not the cheapest option, but worth every penny if it stops your pride and joy being stolen / broken into (y)

Our van had the growler alarm and metatrak tracker fitted when we bought it. I've also fitted a disclok and wheel clamp.
Make it as hard as possible for the scumbags to steal it..
Enjoy.

Hi - The insurer will tell you what they want you to have. We went to NFU and they were not onerous in their requirements. The new Burstner we collected had a Thatcham rated immobiliser and we added a Thatcham 2>1 Alarm which adds an alarm to the factory fitted immobiliser.

In addition I purchased a Clutch Claw which looks really secure and well worth a look. It goes over the pedals and stops you putting the van in gear Or applying the brakes.

VanBitz Growler Strikeback Alarm and a Meta Trak Non Starter for me. Since I got these fitted by VanBitz I have stopped worrying about my van being stolen and I feel that I’m sleeping a lot better. Worth every penny to me and definitely the best M/H accessory that I’ve purchased.

See ‘MH Security’ thread (and probably other threads) and if you decide to purchase from VanBitz don’t forget to ask for your discount at Tim’s of booking. You need to give the discount code.

My belief is that your greatest threat is from people wanting to break in and steal your belongings rather than the van itself but that might be different if you intend to store it somewhere open. What you get should be sufficient to obtain insurance cover and maybe provide you with peace of mind. So long as your van appears to be secure and you don't leave attractive items in sight, I think you will be fine. If thieves are drugged to the eyeballs, however, there's no knowing what they might do.

Every insurance is different but as the value of the van is lower then 100k the requirements will be lower a top end alarm and Traker are around £1300 plus another £700 subscription.
Hope you love your new van

Our Burstner £83000 we had to fit a thatcham cat 1 alarm and class 7 tracker, tracker was £600 plus lifetime subs £500.

As others have said, speak to your insurance company. Another vote for Meta Trak.

I collect my new van tomorrow, I've insured through Comfort.
Comfort ( Aviva ) do not require a tracker on vans below £75k. Alarm is required.

My van is booked in to Vanbitz and will have the Growler and non starter fitted.
Alarm must be installed within 14 days of insurance start date.
I live in Aberdeen so it's a fair trip to Vanbitz but as others have stated it's well worth getting this fitted.

We stay in Lanarkshire and travelled down to get the alarm fixed on the van we bought. Great service by the way. We combined it with a week in Cornwall while we were down that way. Turned the trip into a bit of a holiday stopping a few times there and back.

Not so if it's on a Transit chassis. They want a copy of the the tracker installation certificate.

Interesting, with mine they wanted it the other way around, Tracker yes, Alarm no.
I had quite detailed discussions with Comfort, very useful.

Definitely alarm required under £75k and tracker over £75k, my van cost was £70k.

Like you said, interesting.

Okay, they did ask if it was Ford based but that was all. I never asked what difference that would make.

Aji, you’ll not regret it. I got the same and I’m delighted I did. Your drive is 2 hours more than I had. Safe journey.
