We are about to buy our first motorhome (used). It is from a dealer, 2016, 6000 miles.
Would you recommend getting an AA / RAC independent inspection or should the dealer's free inspection be sufficient? No mechanical knowledge here unfortunately ....

Thank you

AA/RAC are not really motorhome savvy. They'll look at the mechanicals but won't have anything to do with the habitation, which is really more important IMO.

2016, 6000 miles is hardly run in although any bugs should have been sorted out by now. Personally I wouldn't worry, but make sure that if you do go for it the dealer demonstrates everything working, and you understand it, on the handover. Don't let them rush you, it's a lot of money you're giving him. Better it's found on the forecourt BEFORE you pay anything, even if you have to delay collection. Otherwise depends on the reputation of the dealer, some are excellent, most good but a few are rogues.

It's a shame we have to be so cynical these days ain't it?

Similar to the above its the back bit that you are going to live in thats probably more important and the RAC won't do that bit. I would negociate on the price and make sure its the one for you on the basis that you will want to get an independant damp and habitation check before doing the final deal if the dealer is not keen walk!

Not sure about an AA inspection , as TerryL says.
I’d make sure all paperwork is in order, any warranty work documented, on base vehicle and Motorhome side.
3 years on base vehicle? Soon be on your own. How do you rate the dealership?
Tread carefully

Thank you for all the helpful replies and info. We have decided not to bother with AA inspection. The dealership have excellent reviews and the vehicle looks well cared for, but we will chase the paperwork which the dealer has promised to check up on. RAC 3 year warranty provided, although from what I've read, these are often found to be difficult to claim on? Hopefully we won't need to find out any time soon!
