We have a week to travel between La Rochelle & Montpellier and don’t know that part of France well so looking for suggestions.

As it’s July it’s going to be busy most places.

Royan, Cognac any of the Bastide towns/villages just have a mooch about and check the Tour De France isn't or is in the area.

If you’re going past Toulouse try Moissac off the A62. We called last year & it’s a nice little town on the pilgrim trail with cycling & walking possibilities.

Another to try might be Villeneuve des Beziers quite close to Montpellier. Nice place on Canal du midi & a cycle to Beziers. Few bars & restaurants in town & one on site which was ok.

Saintes just a bit inland from Royan has the remains of an old Roman amphitheatre. Montignac-Lascaux is about halfway across and home to the prehistoric cave paintings. Quaint town with a couple of aires. Nearer your destination is, of course, Carcassonne.

Thanks will check those out, we are passing Carcassone but the festival in on so likely to be very busy so will probably stay in Castelnaudary and get the train in.

There’s a million places you could visit but try Oradour sur Glane, Rocamadour and the Tarn Gorge for a start.

Saint foy la grande, Grau Agde, Pont d gard.

If I have spelt any of them correctly 🤭

Thanks will check out the Bastide Towns not something I had heard of before.

The first two are of the Marquis Vauban's pad at Blaye.
Its a Camperstop!!! €10 a nt. including 16amp lecky and a wine tasting. What's not to like.
The others are from our latest wander around the Dordogne. There, and further South are umpteen Bastide Towns.

Just had a look. The last three photos are from Martel. That ville has a Camping car park that has showers and toilets.
The 'interloper' in the last photo kept asking me for money. What is the World coming to. I let her cook my meals and wash my clothes. What's a bloke to do.
