Like wot I did …
Hi! Here’s a bit of info for you if you are ever abroad and lose your debit or credit card.
It’s aimed mainly at Apple iPhone users who don’t have other payment systems. It’s AFAIK.
Put simply: register your cards NOW with Apple Pay and be NOW using the bank or card companies’ apps on your PHONE for managing your card(s)
Explanation:
The important bit is to already have your card(s) registered with Apple Pay by entering their details into the Apple Wallet app on your iPhone. And to have downloaded, and to be using, your bank and credit card’s own apps to see your card details.
If you lose your credit card, the only way you can make electronic purchases is via Apple Pay on your phone (with participating shops and participating cash machines.) This is possible once you have, online, reported your card as lost and have been given a new (inactivated) card online. The new card cannot be activated until you have the plastic in your hand BUT will, straight away, automatically be included into your Apple Wallet (replacing the old card) for immediate use with Apple Pay.
With a debit card the difference is that, as well as Apple Pay, you will (probably) be able to see the card number and 3 numeral security code in your banking app so you can use those details for purchases and to update any other organisations. (e.g. regular payments from your card) with your new debit card details.
Note that whether you replace a credit card by phoning an agent, or online, you can never see it’s full number until you have it in your hand.
