Have any of you fitted any security / deadlocks and if so, which please?

Our Van will spend a bit more time empty this year and am considering fitting a couple to the Cab & Hab doors.

Thanks in advance.

Do you not have an alarm, tracker or imobiliser?

I fitted some on our Hymer bought them from Map locks Abus there is a long thread on here somewhere with pictures do a search on dead locks Hymer

I do Robert - Yes.

I was considering something of a visual deterant as we are going back to Bricks & Mortar in the countryside, and my Wife read that there had been a MH stolen in the next village.

Just belt and braces really.

When we had our Carthago we considered a steering wheel lock, but then decided against as we thought the flashing LED’s of our alarm would be sufficient

We have a Growler + Non-starter fitted and have thought about extra locks, but what about the potential damage caused by scroates using jemmies to lever open doors.
They aren't likely to worry about the appearance of your coachwork after they've carried out their handiwork.

Richard.

Paul Harrison at www.motorhomelocks.co.uk supplies and fits deadlocks.

He owns a Carthago so has in-depth knowledge. The cab door is relatively easy to fit but the hab door more difficult .

Thought about it, but no, decided against. We have Growler and Non-starter with the flashing LEDs, and use a steering wheel cover/clamp when parked in circumstances where it can be seen.

We use a clutch claw. Secure peddle box that stops the foot pedals being used.
Now in the habit of fitting it every time. Can use my feet to position it and then snap the lock shut. 10 secs max.

Yea, I'm sure I read somewhere that a steering wheel lock is one of the best deterants.

A hidden switch inline with the fuel pump relay works as well as anything.

Interesting idea. Is there a risk of having to get the fuel system reset if it is left on by mistake? I have read somewhere that some modern injection systems have to be reprimed under pressure if you run out of fuel, would this apply to your fuel switch?

Only turning off the fuel supply system will still be primed and i think the ecu will detect fuel pump not operating.

Paul Harrison fitted an extra lock to the cab door for us. Would have loved one on the hab door too, but there are no pre cut outs on it to fit one.
Like yourselves, we have alarm, tracker etc too.

I know of at least one Carthago owner who has fitted a deadlock on the hab door. AFAIK Paul Harrison has recently fitted one to his own van.

The main problem is the thickness of the inner door lining. You need some kind of spacing device which connects with the deadlock operating knob and transfers that action to the internal surface of the door.

Perhaps Paul has now refined the solution, so might be worth contacting him.

We operate 5 Berlingo vans at work. During the first.6 no the of operation we had 5 breakins. Each caused significant damage to the doors and loss of expensive tools.

Since fitting dead locks to all doors no further issues apart from 1 failed attempt where I suspect the tw*t hadn't seen the deadlocks before trying to force the doors.

Well worth it in my opinion.
