Good afternoon... We've got 3 weeks away from 23rd July. We've got a gig booked in Munich on 2nd August and Interlake for 6 nights after, leaving us 2 days to get back to Calais. Any ideas for unmissable stops from Calais to Munich? TIA

Try the massive boat lifter on the canal at Strepy-Thieu. A good hour just watching a large canal barge go in at the top and out at the bottom having been lowered 240 feet ( and vice versa). Tours are offered.

We took the Belgian route to Munich to avoid the tolls, or countless roundabouts. Also allows you a free overnight stop at La Maison du Canal near Leers/Estaimpuis. Karlsruhe is a nice town, and nearby, south of Baden-Baden, is the Black Forest High Road (B500) with some spectacular views.

We ve just come back from Salzburg along the alpenstrabbe and did the danube last year with a few previous Germany entries in some other journals available here. Probably 20+ stops of varying interest

The Audi factory at Ingolstadt. A brilliant museum and factory tour. We are not in into cars really, but to see the production lines in operation was amazing. We stayed on an aire not too far away, but I can’t remember the name. The ladies on tourist reception at the factory couldn’t have been more helpful sorting out parking for us. And they have a workers restaurant there which would put most expensive restaurants here to shame.
