Newbie!
We've recently purchased a Carioca 656 with fixed bunks. We use the bottom bunk for our baby with a bed guard to make it like a cot but even with the heating on it's really cold! Our last trip in November she was wrapped in 2 sleepsuits (one fleece) thick sleeping bag and 2 blankets and was still cold while the rest of us were throwing the covers off because we were too hot. The mattress was cold to touch. Not sure if it's the position relative to the heater (right next to it) or the 'garage' underneath but I need a way to make it warmer. Any tried and tested solutions please?

We found those emergency silver blankets great as insulation under the mattress.

Did you switch on the warm air circulation? In a MH I previously had, if the blower wasn't on, anything below the level of the heater output would stay cold. The blown air heats the garage (if the output vents are open not closed). If the garage is warm, the lower bunk will be warm too.

Alternatively (or in addition), closed cell foam mats under the mattress will stop the heat loss into the garage through the base of the bunk. I'm thinking of mats of one or two cm thickness, as used for the camping and yoga.

The lower bunk will always be colder than any of the other beds as it's in a little 'alcove' and with heat rising it won't get as warm as the upper 'alcove' bunk - are you able to put the baby on the upper bunk instead? As well as the suggestions above another option is to make a removable 'hose' to direct the air from the nearest vent towards the bottom bunk itself, or put in an extra vent next to it - not that difficult to do - it could be that with the boiler being nearby the 'designers' didn't think it needed much heat!

So how would you like to be thrown out of a nice warm bed and be told you have to sleep in the coldest part of the MH.

Surely the solution is to get some form of heating into this small space. A lot depends on type of heating. If it’s blown air then you will have cold spots especially at floor level. Alde Heating warms the whole MH. So if you have somewhere cold the designer has not done a very good job. You could run some extra piping under the bed. If it’s blown air you need to see if you can get some ducting to that area.

You could use a small electric blacket. SWMBO uses one as she gets cold legs. We use an Inverter and a very low watt blanket on lowest setting.

Who's getting thrown out of a warm bed? I don't think they mentioned that anyone was actually using the top bunk ... but if they were and throwing the covers off it would seem that they don't need to be so hot anyway! Babies are not able to control their heat as well as adults/older kids.
