So its time to replace our 3g Huawei E5372 mifi unit , as we have an external 4g antenna on the van i would like to get a replacement MIFI unit with what i think are TS9 connections on it ?? , the same as our current mifi unit.
not looking to spend more than £100 ideally

Bart, you can get converters for the aerial connectors if needs be.

The battery is totally done and needs to be plugged into the power all the time, and its that long in the tooth that i don't think its worth buying a replacement battery for. plus i "THINK" the mifi is only 3g or is it 4g compatable

Our old mifi looks just like yours but we found the TS9 connectors were too loose and used to fall out occasionally.
Decided to go with a router with SMA ports that screw on.

Likely because 3g is being phased out so he'lll need 4g minimum.
i to am pretty sure its 3g only ,, but yet when i put my phone sim in it shows this. so im confused is it 4g compatable.
But i am sure about 1 thing , using my phone sim in the Mifi to create a hotspot is about 50% slower that if a create a hotspot on my phone and use that

I think it's 4g

Just did some more googling Mel and came up with this :
The Huawei E5372 modem is already known by many operators: it offers 2G GSM, 3G UMTS and 4G LTE (Category 4 of up to 150 megabits per second for download).

and then this

So what's the difference between 4G and LTE, and is 4G or LTE better? In short, 4G offers a much faster speed, more stability and access to a larger variety of online activities. LTE is a half-point between 3G and 4G, so its performance suffers compared to the fourth generation

so seems its like a step between 3 and 4g

or edit a slower speed of 4g 150 megabits

question if i do a speedtest and say it says download 30Mbps ,, is that the same a 30megabits ??
if so then 150 megabits would be 150Mbps ? is that right ?

Most only do 150, there are some that do 300 but they are more expensive and in any case it's still an 'up to' figure.

We have a Huawei e5577 which we connect to a Poynting external antenna. Needed ts9 adapters though.

I have unlimited data on my 3 network with my mobile for which I pay 3 monthly.

Is it possible to swap my 3 sim card and put it in a unit like the ZTE MF910 and swap it back to my phone as and when I wish - that way I can avoid paying for another mobile network?

Remember that whatever the technical capability of a whizzy new cat6 mifi - realistically, you'll be limited by a sluggish overloaded network and will almost never reach the higher speeds quoted.
So perhaps balance cost versus realistic ambition.

Yes
Hurdle might be the size of sim your phone wants and the size of sim your mifi wants - but this is easily overcome.
Would it not be easier to use your phone as a hotspot, and tether your devices?
There are some downsides to this approach.
If your three sim is in your mifi - what is in the phone?

I connect to the hotspot using the WiFi on my phone and that works fine, just won't get SMS, but I mostly use whatsapp

What about calls?

What about calls?
For me not much of an issue as most of my calls (if I ever get any!) Comes through WhatsApp. I would mostly only use this method in the evenings so we can get Netflix. Plus my wife still has her phone on her. But yes you are right you won't receive calls.

You can buy TS9 to SMA crossover connectors via Amazon, I have them for my E5577, they work fine.
My E5577 runs at 144 mb/sec most of the time. Runs films and iplayer fine at this speed.
Don't forget the device is only as good as as the signal it can receive. That can be poor in national park areas.

I simply tether my iPad and Laptop to my iPhone. Works a treat for remote working and watching Netflix etc.

Tethering devices to ones phone is great IF you have a good data connection and I would use that every time. However, there are so many occasions where a data connection (particularly with 3) is non existent or very flaky! I've just ordered an external WiFi router/3G 4GLTE device - only a cheapy but hopefully it'll make good reception in difficult areas. This is the one I purchased - arriving today:

Last year at the Malvern show my 3 data connection was unusable!

Most of my calls and communications these days are via WhatsAp

I've never found a reasonable priced aerial that works. Just now tried a twin aerial with magnetic bases you can stick on the van roof. Looks the biz. No difference. So mostly now use the phone with a decent data allowance as a hotspot.

Yeah, I do wonder if the phone isn't getting a good connection, will anything else? Research suggests there are benefits (external antenna). A pity StarLink is so expensive.

Apart from the eye-watering price I do like the look of this. Add a 5G SIM-only deal for circa £25/m and it might be a great solution as you can chuck it high up or on the roof in a dry bag.

Unlimited 3 sim, unless you are roaming , in which case its 12 GB per billing period, or month

Of course, if you go for a full-on 4G/5G solution you could use it as your home broadband and simply take it with you when MH'ing.
