I have been looking for health insurance for three month period for early summer. I dont see the point in annual insurance as only going to europe once. Plus most annual insurance only give 30 days a trip. I belive a lot of funsters could be looking at this option. Any sugestions please.

I would just go on gocompare.com and see what comes out.

I used it last year for a 4 week trip where we were taking young adults with us so our annual didn't cover us all. I couldn't believe how cheap it was. Something like £30 for 4 of us.

We tried the go compare sites but nothing affordable for 3 months. your 4 weeks is less than 30 days. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Silly question. Could you get 4 weeks, 3 times, from different insurers
The mathematics add up...but many insurance policies must originate in the UK...your first month would, but subsequent months wouldn't....could be problematic in the event of a claim especially now with departure stamping of passports...🤔

If you are under 65 and have no medical problem history any of the compare sites should be able to sort you out.

It's when you are otherwise that it starts getting a bit tricky. But single-trip policies are usually okay, it's probably the way we're going this year as annual multi-trip has suddenly become very expensive (both over 70).

We're planning on using single trip policies in future if we want more than 30 days; annual cover is OK for up to 31 days.

Same problem for us 66 & 68 in April. none of the medical problems they list Avanti want £ 220.54 essentials £ 313.52 deluke. The renewal for annual is £192.66 but only 30 day each trip. Rip off.

Have you tried staysure? I think they do up to 3 months single trip and they also do long stay from 3 months but there may be an upper age limit on that.

If your looking for general private health insurance have a look at Beneden £11.50per month per person. I know it’s not travel insurance but they offer quite a good package.

I suspect most people taking annual policies might well take 3 separate one or two week holidays so are actually less risk than one 3 month trip. I can't see why the single 3 months one will be any cheaper than annual.

We can still use the European health card EHIC even though we have left the club. Doesn’t help with USA etc.

You'll likely find it is cheaper to get a multi trip one with 90 days per trip on rather than a single 90 day trip one, I looked into it previously and a single trip was at least 3 times more expensive.

There's nothing to stop you cancelling the policy afterwards but read the T&Cs on it first to ensure that you can and what you'd get back if you did after admin fees.

Just remember in some countries it doesn’t cover the whole bill . In France 70% so you would be liable for the balance . Might not be much if something minor but major could prove expensive .

Do you need travel insurance or just health insurance? There are companies that just do international health insurance if that's all you need. I haven't tried this one so just an example.

I've just tried it ...

Wow, i assume that's intended for corporate exec's and ultimately being charged to another corporate customer. Backpacker insurance is nowhere near that kind of price, that's just ridiculous.

I know they’re not always popular but I’ve just checked the travel insurance that comes as part of our packaged bank account and that covers us both for 90 days.

I’m a Type 2 diabetic and for an additional annual premium of around £40.00 issues that come up relating to that condition are also covered. Could be worth checking out👍🏻

Has anyone checked that the EHIC or the Global Health card are adequate comprehensive cover as now required by most countries it covers.
I have not checked myself so interested

Agreed..we have a Nationwide flexplus account..covers health insurance (can add extra duration for an additional payment) also covers our 2 cars and Motorhome (under 3500kg) for a maximum of 180 days) for European breakdown..cost is £13 per month...but we got money in the account when we transferred from another bank ..

I'm assuming to get 90 days you had to pay extra? If so how much did it cost please?

Had to give up Staysure, always been very good for us, but now won't do multi-trip policy for over-70's for longer than 30 days.

Saga quoted us a deal that would have suited, but premium was around £365.00 - too much with all the uncertainty around.

I broke my arm in 4 places when in France. Used the E 111, for treatment in Dinan hospital. I got a bill at the end for 39 euros. That was for the wine consumed by my wife and mother in law when visiting me, true.:(

As I say can be very inexpensive but need surgery , have a bad accident , stroke or heart attack and you can be pretty out of pocket . Have quoted before friend with a holiday home near to us have gall bladder removed and as didn’t realise it was the problem for days ended up with sepsis . 7 weeks in ICU and air ambulance Limoges - Edinburgh would have been a horrendous bill but thankfully had insurance . Remember lots of us getting older lol

Thanks everyone for all your help. As expected due to the 90 day trip limit more people will be looking at this type of cover.
Never thought of the bank, went on line and looked it up £12.56 a month health insurance and rac cover : uk & europe : going to call them tomorrow to see how much extra to take the 30 days to 90 days.

The 90 days is a standard feature of the policy of the Travel Insurance policy.

The bank account itself costs £30.00 per month and does have other benefits that are of value to us.
