Hi.completely new here but retirement offering a chance to fulfill long time wish to have trip in motor home so hiring one initially to see how it goes Hiring 2 berth for my wife and I and starting in York and Durham where my daughter has moved.i would appreciate any suggestions as to what trail to follow in the N.E and I have joined M.H members club.Thank you all.

York area is great and if you can get on the MCC at Rowntree its 10 mins walk into York If not there are Park and Ride areas around the city. Durham is another good one get instructions from the site and walk across to the Park and Ride approx 10 minutes walk.

I have never been but I know seasoned campers who sing high praise of the CAMC site White Water Park outside Stockton on Tees.

We also enjoyed our stay at Camping Sandfield House Farm, Whitby with easy access into Whitby & Sandsend and CAMC site Old Hartley just north of Newcastle with access to that city and the coastline

....so hiring one initially to see how it goes
If you want to get a good idea of the possibilities of Motorhoming, personally I would suggest only staying in one place for a maximum of two days, and get some of the country seen/miles under your belt. So maybe head south and visit Derbyshire and Norfolk too, or head north and visit some of Scotland...

There is a campsite right next to Beamish museum, can't remember it's name, but as well as going into Beamish, if you like museums, there is a bus which stops outside which will take you to Newcastle or Durham, or have connections to them.

Search for sites app will tell you every stopover type from pub stops to CAMC sites. Cragside house a must see. National trust and plenty of parking.

Thank you but what do you mea . search for site apps and what is CAMC

Camping (or Caravan, can't remember!) And Motorhome Club.

And Search for Sites is an app you download onto a phone and it will give you all the types of sites in a given area... We use that and Park for Night all the time when in an unfamiliar area.

We are from Northallerton and regularly go to Helmsley, Seaham at Noses Point and Cow Green Reservoir in the Teesdale hills.. all free overnight spots. Another favourite is Hamsterly forest which is £12 or £20 on Bank Holidays.

No facilities at most of these.. toilets only at Helmsley and Hamsterly so we only tend to stay a night or two

Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, Staithes and just keep heading North into Northumberland, Anick, Beadnell Bay, Bamburgh, Berwick.
