Hobby 690 Toskana
Hi,

I have a 2012 Hobby 690 Toskana with an issue with the rear bed led down lighters, next to the storage cupboards.

I have noticed at night that even when the lights are turned off, you can see a very dim glow from the lights.

Recently the lights have been intermittent coming on and then not working.

They now do not come on, though I did noticed at night that they still glowed dimly when turned off and a slightly brighter glow when turned on.

I don’t believe that it is a switch issue as the same fault occurs with each switch located in different areas of the van.

There is clearly power still going to the lights, but do they have an LED driver that may be failing?

I’d be very grateful of any assistance please.

Kind regards,

Steve

Sound like the switch is breaking down if it's passing when off and not connecting when on etc. Try another switch

To add is the system wired through a common like three way lights on house stairs. If so the switches can be on in any position but if one is passing they will be on regardless.

Hi Bubba,

Are you saying that if one of the two switches is failing then the whole system will fail?

I was thinking it was more of an LED driver issue as it does appear that there is power to the lights, albeit they are very dim and now only barely visible in the dark.

There is a similar/like 3 button switch in the bathroom, I can swap that over with the one in the bedroom. If it's the main control panel switch by the door then that's whole different ball game....

Best regards and thanks for your replies,

Steve

You could just make the connections behind the switch then turn on power. If it works a switch is breaking down. If not the driver. I have had it where a switch on its way out and the led were doing all sorts of funny things. Only found out it was a switch after I put a new driver board on. I thought a switch was on or off but not with leds apparently they can leak over so the leds don't get all the power over. Stumped me for a week.

I've swapped the bedroom switch with a like for like in the over head bunk. No change. The bedroom switch worked fine in the over head bunk light too.

I've had the control panel light switch out, basically controls 8 different lights throughout the van, still no change.

Looks like the driver then. I don't know where they are on your van.

Having now taking the thing apart, they appear to just be 12v 3LED domestic units wired into a circuit. The lights are now working again, having driven the vehicle, which suggests a loose connection somewhere, but not in the light fitments as they are checked and correct.

They are pulling 12.20v when on and 6.70v when they are switched off, which gives a very dim glow. I'm not sure whether this is a fault or a feature of the lights....? The leisure battery is pushing out 12.86v and the lounge lights are pulling 12.85v

The issue now is that the 12v lights in part of the van are 'tripping out', though I can't find a trip switch.
The effected lights are the bedroom and kitchen lights to the rear nearside of the van. The bathroom lights to the rear offside are not effected, nor are the lounge lights in the centre front of the van.

I have looked at the PC-100 12v fuse unit under the driver's seat which indicates that there are two fused lighting circuits - Group A & Group B.

Group A covers all bedroom, kitchen, glass cabinet and lounge spotlights
Group B covers bathroom and lounge led lights but not the spotlights

If the diagram below loads, you can see that the affected lights and the non-affected lights are all on the same fused circuit.

I've cleaned off, Vaseline'd and retighten the leisure battery terminals, to no avail.

I'm thinking it has a bad earth somewhere. I have isolated each of the individual lights that are effected, yet the fault still prevails.....

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Is it a joint return wire. Can you rig a new (temporary) wite from the fuse to the first light in the chain see if they come on. Also rig a temporary earth to the first light. Then move it to the next in series until you find the broken wire.
