The cab heater on my fiat ducato works when the engine is switched off and when the key is removed but will not work when the key is switched on or the engine running hence no heat any ideas ? it has been suggested to me to change the heater resister and heater heater relay modular, but wear are they how can you tell which ones thanks for any help Bunny

I don’t see how the heater works if the engine is not running, does it not work off the heat generated by the engine?
Do you have an electric heater that is running off the leisure battery. In most UK vans the 12v system is disconnected when the engine is running.

It might be better to change the thread title to something like “Help, cab heater not working” to get more informed replies.

I think the heater resistor pack is clipped to the side of the fan body, under the dash ? When they fail, the fan generally will only run flat out, if you can still control the speed of your fan, it's probably not the resistor pack ?
As for the other symptoms, that's got me stumped, unless someone's been fiddling with the wiring or the ignition switch contacts are starting to fail ?

Hi the heater getting hot is not the problem its the fact that the heater blower works when engine off and key out but not when you have the engine running

Are you able to arrange a BCM (body control module) diagnostic check at a local workshop in case it is faulty and that is the cause of the problem as these units are involved with most operating functions (except engine)

Find the fuse for the fan then trace the wiring feed to it which should only be live when the ignition is on.
Also pull the fuse and see if it getting a feed from somewhere else.

Is there anything else that works that should not.

Is it possible that the heater power supply has been connected to the wrong place on the fuseboard.
