Although my van came from Southwest Motorhomes, SMC have looked after the Habitation servicing and warranty for me for 3 years.
I found then an honest reliable company and like the fact that staff get to know you and staff turnover is low so you see the same people year after year.

Recently had a service, hab check and a couple of fixes done at SMC on our 2 year old Frankia. We had informed them of the couple of minor problems we had and also asked them to sort out the Maxview satellite motor problem which had resulted in us having to take the sat dish down completely. Not only did they sort out the dish and reinstalled it and fixed our minor problems but they must have done a very thorough hab check as they also fixed a flickering light on the led over the kitchen sink and also the catch on the sliding door between the bedroom and toilet. We had omitted to report these two problems so well pleased with them spotting these minor issues at the hab check.

Tried to negotiate with SMC to buy a motorhome. More than one salesman consistently failed to return my calls.

I get the impression that, being the only Frankia dealer in the UK, they couldn't care less about customer service and professionalism. Well, there are plenty more good quality brands available in the UK, so after 3 weeks or more of trying to get answers from them, I give up. I'll go and spend my money elsewhere.

(PS, Handover rating isn't applicable as they didn't seem to want to sell a motorhome, but it won't let me enter no rating).

My wife and I collected our new Frankia vehicle yesterday from SMC Newark and had a fantastic in depth informative handover delivered to us by Bob, Alistair was a gentleman as usual and looked after us impeccably, a nice touch was the hamper given to us which had all sorts of goodies in it from breakfast cereal and milk to chocolates and Prosecco.

We are at the Smeatons Lakes site at SMC’s expense and had a couple of niggles last night, we had intended to call SMC this morning but SMC beat us to it calling before 1000 to make sure everything was ok, we popped along and a short while later all was well and we are now back at Smeatons Lakes for the night.

We are delighted with the service received and everyone we had contact with at SMC and will have no hesitation in recommending them to friends and family, if you are looking to buy a motorhome they will take some matching never mind beating.

we bought our Autosleeper Broadway from SMC. Very impressed with the initial sales and the price offered for our old van however, trade in value was reduced at point of contract (SMC don't inspect vehicles at shows). To be fair, we were offered our deposit back if unhappy but moh was too excited so was happy to lose a couple of thou. Very thorough handover, repeated things if we didn't understand and went through things again over the phone if we forgot anything when we had come home.

Found a couple of problems, SMC put things right straight away. When they have ordered things for us, this has been prompt - we cannot fault this company's aftersales service at all

Best of all, SMC was the ONLY company who offered to look at our airbag fault immediately before we were due to go on holiday. Local Fiat workshops were not interested, even to look and we were worried about safety. "Call down and we'll fit you in" said SMC - same done and we were happy to return there after our holiday for the work to be carried out

Would I trust this company - absolutely - just wished they had valued our old van at the show!!

After being shabbily treated by a dealer who is a near neighbour of SMC took my mh to them, they effected an immediate repair, but whilst there saw our next mh. Brilliant sales service and within guarentee period we had break failure, they paid for the repair despite us having to have it repaired in Portugal. They even replied to my e mails on New Years Day. Well impressed!

Took delivery of our new Pilote in July after a wait of 3and a half months. Everything went okay at handover, except the tv aeriel hadn't been fitted although that was not all SMC's fault. Had to return a week later to get faulty table changed, done no problem. Overall very pleased with dealings with this company, and the salesman we dealt with was first class.

A long way to return to - Fife to Newark Notts

We purchased a new Pilote van in May and we were disappointed that the salesman ( who will remain anonymous) messed our order up. Wrong colour furnishings which we are still waiting to be replaced 7 months later, and got a fixed bed which we didn't want. They will say it is customers fault as they should check final order but it is partly theirs, particularly when I asked for bike rack in garage and salesman saw me measuring up max height of garage to accommodate bikes and never pointed out that our van did not come with that option.
On top of that van has been back 5 times to fix things that have gone wrong, not all SMC fault I know. One of the most annoying was that the DAB radio would not work, this is a known issue and was fixed in the end by putting another Ariel on the roof but it took 2 trips back to solve this. If it is a known issue sort it out before handover!
The Hanover was a joke, arrived at 11 and didn't leave until 5 as they could not get rear air suspension to work. Also ended up putting second TV bracket up in bedroom, which had not been done.
Seems to me they are only interested in sales and service team are excellent but far too stretched sorting out issues!

Have been dealing with SMC for a few years now. I have always found them to be fair, honest and good to deal with.

This is a family business that not only has the motorhome sales side but is also an insurance approved body shop with facilities to repair all types of vehicles including motorhomes, lorries, large buses, coaches, vans and cars. They have ovens large enough to bake painted vehicles of all sizes. They carry out bodywork repairs for other motorhome dealers too. This means that they have the ability and expertise to fully understand bodywork problems and deal with them "in house" without having to farm them out like most other dealers. They also provide mechanical service and repair.

I am perfectly happy to recommend them, from my own personal experience.

I tend to stay with dealers until they let me down.
So far SMC have been great.
Can be a little difficult to catch hold of on the phone, bu t once engaged I can't fault them.
Friendly, family run and sort out the niggles inevitable with any van.
Admittedly they have received a fair wodge of my retirement fund, but they have cheerfully fulfilled all I've asked.

Shame they are 4+ hours away but that's not their fault!

Seem nice guys and get my vote so far.

My impression of them when enquiring about used vans on 2 occasions in terrible.

I was interested in a Le voyageur 2003 reg year in Dec 2014, the salesman Alistair Briggs Price thinks having 13 year old tyres on a motorhome is fine as long as they have a bit of tread left to pass the MOT, the chassis was a 2001 one and so were the tyres. The manager Gavin said that he will go with whatever Alistair says as he is the expert, expert my backside. Couldn't do a deal with them

Same again when going to buy another used van this year, telling porkies, pointing out flaws to the salesman he admits that he would not tell future buyers about them.

I picked our new Globecar Campscout from SMC Newark in April 2017, within days I New the Thetford compressor fridge was faulty.
I notified Thetford who were really helpful and they informed SMC to order a new fridge and fit it to our van which they did in time for the Bagwell rally.

There was also a faulty graphic which was ordered from Germany.
I had also ordered our van with a Blaupunkt New York media system with DAB radio.
When we got our van home I noticed that there was no DAB fitted to my media system, I contacted SMC who said it needed a module fitted to convert to DAB.

It eventually came to Sept and we had heard nothing from SMC and I was resigned to the fact that the graphic and DAB module were not going to be fitted.

Out of the blue on the 15th Sept I had a call from SMC as the graphic and the DAB module had arrived and could I take our van in to be sorted,

Anyway to day all sorted at SMC and now I have Planet Rock on my radio,
Well done SMC a great company to deal with.
