Hi all I have just purchased a Maxxfan fitting it myself and I am not sure which adhesive to use can someone who has fitted one of these fans recommend an adhesive
thanks

I assume it is held on by some sort of mechanical fixings, such as screws. If so, you do not want an adhesive. You need a non-setting mastic. There are those in cartridges and also as a tape on a role.
A Goggle search will show you the options.

Mastic tape…. Shop around and you’ll get it cheaper.😎

I do not like the idea of putting screws in but it seems most people do from the reviews I have read and the fitting instructions
Surely you wouldn’t need screws too if using good adhesive

I used Dekaseal 8936 to fit mine, which is a non setting mastic, so you need screws as well, which I also used. Just make sure the screws are inserted through the sealant so that the drilled hole is sealed. I fitted it over six months ago and it’s been through some horrendous weather in the meantime and hasn’t leaked.

If you use adhesive rather than sealant and screws it may be a real pain to remove if you had to for any reason.

I also helped a friend fit one to his van a few weeks ago in exactly the same way. No problems with his so far either. As well as passing the screws through the sealant, also made sure the screw heads were sealed against the Maxxfan’s plastic frame.

Good luck with the fit 👍

The one I took off my motorhome was the original one fitted by Carthago. It was fitted using non setting mastic and didn’t need screws on the outside because it was clamped down from the inside by clips, much like a kitchen sink in a worktop. Maxxfan would be better if the frame could be clamped in rather than screwed.

If I was fitting one it would be non setting sealant and no screws or not fit it, why wouldn’t that work?
I’ve put large rooflights in with just non setting sealant, probably a lot heavier than the maxxfan.

I did consider it but didn’t want to risk it and so went for the safer option. Wasn’t sure the Dekaseal alone would hold it in.

Couldn't quite work out how he did those strips, but applaud doing it that way. I've seen cheaper Fiamma skylights that have loads of screws around the top flange like these Maxair's have and it's messy and asking for leaks. So many holes and not necessary when clamp mounts work better. A bit surprised they use that method (screws).

Yes so am I, with the quality of adhesive these days it seems much better to do it with no screws.
