Extra worktop space ! (1 Viewer)

Anybody out there had any ideas of making up and fitting some extra work top space in there M.H .?.

Hinged down work surface by the entrance door. Assuming once you start serving and need the space you will not be going outside. We even fitted one to an executive jet although we did have to make the stewardess realise it was best stowed for take off and landing.

Made and fitted a hinged pop up worktop extension. It was a bit of a pain to make as the end of our worktop is curved and has an overhang, but that extra bit of space it gives us made it worthwhile.

I converted my van 2 years ago a 6m peugeot boxer,so did this to get extra work space.

You just have to remember to get all your diggers out first?.

I converted my van 2 years ago a 6m peugeot boxer,so did this to get extra work space.

Great minds and all that, previously we had a PVC that was converted by a previous owner, but I added various mods to suit our needs and like you I added a pop up worktop across the door opening a slide out shelf above a drawer unit.

I also made use of some vertical empty space by making a couple of gallery shelves to store mugs.

It seems one of the most intriguing and fun items that a turner can make, is a Lazy Susan. Essentially two pieces of decorative wood turned and joined by a bearing sandwiched between them, allowing the top disc to revolve relative to the lower one....

Derry Wilson I initially bought a set of folding brackets like Wissel posted, but I too thought they were bit naff, so I bought these for our pop up worktops.

Other than these brackets being well made and sturdy, the release buttons to drop the worktop down are on the end of the brackets so your not fiddling around underneath trying to find a lever.

That's what I used when I added a worktop flap previously, you MUST buy 2 though as 1 won't work with any other type of hinge due to the way they are meant to move slightly as you lift the flap ... guess how I know!

B&Q kitchen door - cut to the ply template and edged with edging tape.

On a previous A Class there was a bench seat that wasn't getting used with just storage underneath. And a postage stamp size worktop.
So took the seat completely out and rebuilt that whole side you can make out the original cupboard on the rh end.
Build in microwave (1500W inverter or mains)
Drinks cabinet.
Of course once built the space soon fills

And a slimline table to make up another double ,but unused .

I will say that I have both here. I personally prefer the black ones. But both seem very well made

Edit: Thought it might be useful if I said why I prefer the black ones

1. More screws and wider surface area into whatever it's attached to.
2. The catches are more positive (lock better)
3. the release is easier to find
4. Nicer finish

All subjective I guess

Sorry Wissel I have just realised that I mis-read and therefore mis-quoted you on your earlier posting of your black brackets although I bought a pair like yours off of eBay and was not impressed with what I received, but of course your source was probably different and therefore the quality as well.

On second thoughts the black ones might be the better. I'm looking at a solution for the microwave, rather than sitting on the table taking up useable seating space. Microwave weighs c12kilos.

The bit of board was less than £15 at Homebase. The posts for the headrest hold it in place. The shelf can easily be slid up to allow access to the buttons that release the headrests. I had to use a hole saw and chisel out a recess to allow the shelf to sit flat on the bulkhead

I really like that idea but unfortunately my Burstner does not have this nice handy posts to secure the shelf, they are a permanent fixture attached to the backboard.

My solution would not work for most people but I will share anyway.

We hardly ever use the hob in the van, we take our 'one cup' kettle with us for tea's and coffee's, so to make the work surface useful, I purchased a glass hob protector/chopping board, lots of different designs available!

I now have a reasonable work surface, although I would love to get an extension next to the sink but have not find the right thing yet!

IRHP are you abl to open the lid of the hob with the shelf in place, or do you have to raise the shelf first?
